Then after the time for mourning was over, David sent someone to bring her to the palace. She became David's wife, and they had a son. The LORD was angry at what David had done,

But if he says he isn't pleased with me, then let him do what he knows is best.

While David was king, there were three years in a row when the nation of Israel could not grow enough food. So David asked the LORD for help, and the LORD answered, “Saul and his family are guilty of murder, because he had the Gibeonites killed.”

The LORD was angry with Israel again, and he made David think it would be a good idea to count the people in Israel and Judah.

After David had everyone counted, he felt guilty and told the LORD, “What I did was stupid and terribly wrong. LORD, please forgive me.”

So the LORD sent a horrible disease on Israel, and seventy thousand Israelites died.

Joab refused to include anyone from the tribes of Levi and Benjamin, because he still disagreed with David's orders.

David prayed, “I am your servant. But what I did was stupid and terribly wrong. Please forgive me.”

The LORD had said that everything in Jericho belonged to him. But Achan from the Judah tribe took some of the things from Jericho for himself. And so the LORD was angry with the Israelites, because one of them had disobeyed him.

Tell the people of Israel, “Tomorrow you will meet with the LORD your God, so make yourselves acceptable to worship him. The LORD says that you have taken things that should have been destroyed. You won't be able to stand up to your enemies until you get rid of those things.
