After David left Hebron and moved to Jerusalem, he married many women from Jerusalem, and he had a lot of children.

Seven hundred of his wives were daughters of kings, but he also married three hundred other women. As Solomon got older, some of his wives led him to worship their gods. He wasn't like his father David, who had worshipped only the LORD God.

David now knew that the LORD had made him a powerful king of Israel for the good of his people.

His children born there were Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon, Ibhar, Elishua, Elpelet, Nogah, Nepheg, Japhia, Elishama, Beeliada, and Eliphelet.

The LORD has blessed me with many sons, but he chose my son Solomon to be the next king of Israel.

Life is short, and you love your wife, so enjoy being with her. This is what you are supposed to do as you struggle through life on this earth.

And why isn't God pleased? It's because he knows that each of you men has been unfaithful to the wife you married when you were young. You promised that she would be your partner, but now you have broken that promise.

Jesus replied, “You are so heartless! That's why Moses allowed you to divorce your wife. But from the beginning God did not intend it to be that way.

And the king must not have a lot of wives—they might tempt him to be unfaithful to the LORD. Finally, the king must not try to get huge amounts of silver and gold.
