Arise, O Lord! O God, lift up Your hand; forget not the humble [patient and crushed].

Therefore He lifted up His hand [as if taking an oath] against them, that He would cause them to fall in the wilderness,

Your hand shall find all Your enemies; Your right hand shall find all those who hate You.

And I will bring My hand again upon you and thoroughly purge away your dross [as with lye] and take away all your tin or alloy.

But [with united forces Ephraim and Judah] will swoop down upon the shoulders of the Philistines' [land sloping] toward the west; together they will strip the people on the east [the Arabs]. They will lay their hands upon Edom and Moab, and the Ammonites will obey them.

Though Your hand is lifted high to strike, Lord, they do not see it. Let them see Your zeal for Your people and be ashamed; yes, let the fire reserved for Your enemies consume them.

Now will I arise, says the Lord. Now will I lift up Myself; now will I be exalted.

And I will [in the distant future] overthrow the throne of kingdoms and I will destroy the strength of the kingdoms of the [ungodly] nations, and I will overthrow the chariots and those who ride in them, and the horses and their riders shall go down, every one by the sword of his brother. And I will cut off and exterminate the war chariot from Ephraim and the [war] horse from Jerusalem, and the battle bow shall be cut off; and He shall speak the word and peace shall come to the nations, and His dominion shall be from the [Mediterranean] Sea to [any other] sea, and from the River [Euphrates] to the ends of the earth! [Ps. 72:8.]

[The indignant king ended by saying] But as for these enemies of mine who did not want me to reign over them–bring them here and slaughter them in my presence!

For [Christ] must be King and reign until He has put all [His] enemies under His feet. [Ps. 110:1.]
