They asked him, What then? Are you Elijah? And he said, I am not! Are you the Prophet? And he answered, No! [Deut. 18:15, 18; Mal. 4:5.]

Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the great and terrible day of the Lord comes. [Matt. 11:14; 17:10-13.]

And if you are willing to receive and accept it, John himself is Elijah who was to come [before the kingdom]. [Mal. 4:5.]

And they answered, Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.

And the crowds replied, This is the prophet Jesus from Nazareth of Galilee.

Then they said to him, Who are you? Tell us, so that we may give an answer to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?

And they asked him, Why then are you baptizing if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?

When the people saw the sign (miracle) that Jesus had performed, they began saying, Surely and beyond a doubt this is the Prophet Who is to come into the world! [Deut. 18:15, 18; John 1:21; Acts 3:22.]

Listening to those words, some of the multitude said, This is certainly and beyond doubt the Prophet! [Deut. 18:15, 18; John 1:21; 6:14; Acts 3:22.]
