Thus they made a covenant at Beersheba; then Abimelech and Phicol the commander of his army returned to the land of the Philistines.

Then one who had escaped came and told Abram the Hebrew [one from the other side], who was living by the oaks or terebinths of Mamre the Amorite, a brother of Eshcol and of Aner–these were allies of Abram.

So Abraham took sheep and oxen and gave them to Abimelech, and the two men made a league or covenant.

Therefore that place was called Beersheba [well of the oath], because there both parties swore an oath.

Abraham planted a tamarisk tree in Beersheba and called there on the name of the Lord, the Eternal God.

He owned flocks, herds, and a great supply of servants, and the Philistines envied him.

When he had been there a long time, Abimelech king of the Philistines looked out of a window and saw Isaac caressing Rebekah his wife.

So come now, let us make a covenant or league, you and I, and let it be for a witness between you and me.

When Pharaoh let the people go, God led them not by way of the land of the Philistines, although that was nearer; for God said, Lest the people change their purpose when they see war and return to Egypt.

AND THE Israelites again did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, and the Lord gave them into the hands of the Philistines for forty years.

Then Jonathan made a covenant with David, because he loved him as his own life.
