Now send quickly and tell David, Lodge not this night at the fords [at the Jordan] of the wilderness, but by all means pass over, lest the king be swallowed up and all the people with him.

David said to all his servants who were with him at Jerusalem, Arise and let us flee, or else none of us will escape from Absalom. Make haste to depart, lest he overtake us suddenly and bring evil upon us and smite the city with the sword.

See, I will wait at the fords [at the Jordan] of the wilderness until word comes from you to inform me.

Will not Zadok and Abiathar the priests be with you? So whatever you hear from the king's house, just tell it to [them].

Let them not say in their hearts, Aha, that is what we wanted! Let them not say, We have swallowed him up and utterly destroyed him.

I would hasten to escape and to find a shelter from the stormy wind and tempest.

For while we are still in this tent, we groan under the burden and sigh deeply (weighed down, depressed, oppressed)–not that we want to put off the body (the clothing of the spirit), but rather that we would be further clothed, so that what is mortal (our dying body) may be swallowed up by life [after the resurrection].

And Jonathan cried after the lad, Make speed, haste, stay not! The lad gathered up the arrow and came to his master.
