Nevertheless, David took the stronghold of Zion, that is, the City of David.

So David dwelt in the stronghold and called it the City of David. And he built round about from the Millo and inward.

And when your days are fulfilled and you sleep with your fathers, I will set up after you your offspring who shall be born to you, and I will establish his kingdom.

Otherwise, when my lord the king shall sleep with his fathers, I and my son Solomon shall be counted as offenders.

He died in a good old age [his seventy-first year], full and satisfied with days, riches, and honor. Solomon his son reigned in his stead.

They buried him in the City of David among the kings, because he had done good in Israel and toward God and His house.

Then Solomon slept with his fathers; he was buried in the city of David his father. Rehoboam his son reigned in his stead.

For David, after he had served God's will and purpose and counsel in his own generation, fell asleep [in death] and was buried among his forefathers, and he did see corruption and undergo putrefaction and dissolution [of the grave].

Brethren, it is permitted me to tell you confidently and with freedom concerning the patriarch David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.
