Then the word of the Adonai came to Elijah the Tishbite saying:


I have strayed like a lost sheep— seek Your servant. For I did not forget Your mitzvot.


We all like sheep have gone astray. Each of us turned to his own way. So Adonai has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.


My people have been lost sheep. Their shepherds led them astray. Turning around in the mountains, they went from mountain to hill, and forgot their resting place.


As a shepherd seeks out his sheep on the day he is among his scattered flock, so I will seek out My sheep. I will rescue them out of all the places where they have been scattered, on a day of cloud and thick darkness.


“I will seek the lost, bring back the stray, bind up the broken and strengthen the sick. But the fat and the strong I will destroy—I will tend them with justice.


They will no longer be prey to the nations. The beast of the earth will not devour them. They will live in security. No one will make them afraid.


You do not strengthen the weak, heal the sick, bind up the broken, bring back the stray or seek the lost. Instead, you have ruled over them with force and cruelty.


My sheep wandered through all the mountains and on every high hill. Over all the face of the earth My sheep were scattered. No one searched. No one sought.”


He said to them, “What man among you will not grab his sheep and lift it out, if it falls into a pit on Shabbat?


And if he finds it, amen I tell you, he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-nine that didn’t stray.


“Now what do you think? A man had two sons, and he went to the first and said, ‘Son, go work in the vineyard today.’


saying, “What do you think about the Messiah? Whose Son is He?” “David’s,” they say to Him.


I speak as to sensible people—judge for yourselves what I say.


For you like sheep were going astray, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Guardian of your souls.
