As Yeshua was setting out on His way, a man ran up to Him, fell on his knees before Him, and asked, “Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”


And He replied to them, “What did Moses command you?”


One of the Torah scholars came and heard them debating. Seeing that Yeshua had answered them well, he asked Him, “Which commandment is first of all?”


For I tell you, many prophets and kings desired to see what you are seeing yet did not see, and to hear what you are hearing yet did not hear.”


Then Yeshua said to him, “What has been written in the Torah? How do you read it?”


And a religious leader inquired of Yeshua, saying, “Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”


But the Pharisees and Torah lawyers, not having been immersed by John, declared God’s purpose invalid for themselves.


Now they were saying this to trap Him, so that they would have grounds to accuse Him. But Yeshua knelt down and started writing in the dirt with His finger.


For if the inheritance is based on law, it is no longer based on a promise. But God has graciously given it to Abraham by means of a promise.
