He said: “Adonai is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer.


“Do you know when the mountain goats give birth? Do you observe the calving doe?


The high mountains are for wild goats, the cliffs a refuge for rock badgers.


Their judges are thrown down from a cliff. Then they will hear my words, since they are sweet.


The wicked lies in wait for the righteous, seeking to slay him.


My friends and my companions stay away from my wound, and my kinsmen stand far off.


Now Saul chose for himself 3,000 men of Israel, of which 2,000 were with Saul in Michmas and in the hill country of Beth-el, and 1,000 were with Jonathan in Gibeah of Benjamin. The rest of the troops he sent away, each one to his tent.


So Saul had to return from chasing after David, and go to engage the Philistines. Therefore they called that place the Rock of Separation.


So Saul arose and went down to the wilderness of Ziph, 3,000 chosen men of Israel with him, to search for David in the wilderness of Ziph.
