Thus he turned the heart of all the men of Judah as one man, and then they sent word to the king, “Come back, you and all your servants.”


But do not seek Bethel, do not go to Gilgal, do not cross over to Beersheba. For Gilgal will surely go into exile, and Bethel will come to trouble.


Afterward, you are to go down before me to Gilgal; and behold, I will come down to you to offer burnt offerings and sacrifice fellowship offerings. Seven days you will wait, until I come to you and instruct you what you should do.”

But when the Ashdodites arose early next morning, to everyone’s surprise, Dagon had fallen to his face on the ground before the ark of Adonai. So they took Dagon up and put him back in his place.


He used to go annually on a circuit to Beth-el and Gilgal and Mizpah, and would judge over Israel in all those places.
