If you obey him, the LORD will keep the promise he made when he told me that my descendants would rule Israel as long as they were careful to obey his commands faithfully with all their heart and soul.


He stood by the royal column and made a covenant with the LORD to obey him, to keep his laws and commands with all his heart and soul, and to put into practice the demands attached to the covenant, as written in the book. And all the people promised to keep the covenant.


Now serve the LORD your God with all your heart and soul. Start building the Temple, so that you can place in it the Covenant Box of the LORD and all the other sacred objects used in worshipping him.”


And to Solomon he said, “My son, I charge you to acknowledge your father's God and to serve him with an undivided heart and a willing mind. He knows all our thoughts and desires. If you go to him, he will accept you; but if you turn away from him, he will abandon you for ever.


A search was made for Ahaziah, and he was found hiding in Samaria. They took him to Jehu and put him to death. But they did bury his body out of respect for his grandfather King Jehoshaphat, who had done all he could to serve the LORD. No member of Ahaziah's family was left who could rule the kingdom.


He was successful, because everything he did for the Temple or in observance of the Law, he did in a spirit of complete loyalty and devotion to his God.


With all my heart I try to serve you; keep me from disobeying your commandments.


With all my heart I call to you; answer me, LORD, and I will obey your commands!


Happy are those who follow his commands, who obey him with all their heart.


I ask you with all my heart to have mercy on me, as you have promised!


The proud have told lies about me, but with all my heart I obey your instructions.


He is near to those who call to him, who call to him with sincerity.


So all your loyal people should pray to you in times of need; when a great flood of trouble comes rushing in, it will not reach them.


When they call to me, I will answer them; when they are in trouble, I will be with them. I will rescue them and honour them.


I have not spoken in secret or kept my purpose hidden. I did not require the people of Israel to look for me in a desolate waste. I am the LORD, and I speak the truth; I make known what is right.”


They will worship me and will lead their sheep and cattle to pasture in the Plain of Sharon in the west and in the Valley of Trouble in the east.


I will give them the desire to know that I am the LORD. Then they will be my people, and I will be their God, because they will return to me with all their heart.


And after all this, Judah, Israel's unfaithful sister, only pretended to return to me; she was not sincere. I, the LORD, have spoken.”


The LORD says, “When that time comes, the people of both Israel and Judah will come weeping, looking for me, their God.


“I will abandon my people until they have suffered enough for their sins and come looking for me. Perhaps in their suffering they will try to find me.”


“But even now,” says the LORD, “repent sincerely and return to me with fasting and weeping and mourning.


“Ask, and you will receive; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you.


As they travelled down the road, they came to a place where there was some water, and the official said, “Here is some water. What is to keep me from being baptized?”
