So they answered Jesus and said, "We do not know."And He said to them, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.


And seeking to seize Him, they feared the crowds, since they considered Him as a prophet.


"But should we say, 'From men' "-they feared the people, for all had counted John to have been a prophet indeed.


And they sought to lay hold of Him, but they feared the crowd, for they knew that He had spoken the parable against them. And leaving Him, they went away.


for Herod was afraid of John, knowing that he was a just and holy man, and he was protecting him. And when he heard him, he did many things, but he would hear him gladly.


And the chief priests and the scribes sought to lay hands on Him that very hour, but they were afraid-for they knew that He had spoken this parable against them.


But if we say, 'From men,' all the people will stone us, for they are persuaded [that] John was a prophet."


And the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how they might kill Him, for they feared the people.


He was the burning and shining lamp, and you were willing to rejoice for a while in his light.


These things[ ]his parents said because they feared the Jews, for the Jews had agreed already that if anyone should confess that He was Christ, he would be excommunicated.


Then the captain went with the officers and brought them without violence, for they were afraid of the people, lest they be stoned.
