And as he sowed, some seed fell alongside the road; and the birds came and devoured them.


Now it came to pass, when Jesus had finished these parables, He went away from there.


And Jesus answered and spoke to them again in parables, saying,


"Now learn this parable from the fig tree: Whenever its branch already becomes tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near.


Then He began to speak to them with parables: "A man planted a vineyard and set a fence around it, dug a wine vat and built a tower. And he leased it to farmers, and went on a journey.


And they sought to lay hold of Him, but they feared the crowd, for they knew that He had spoken the parable against them. And leaving Him, they went away.


And having summoned them, he began to say to them in parables: "How can Satan cast out Satan?


And He said to them, "Do you not know this parable? How then will you know all the parables?


And by many such parables He would speak the word to them, just as they were able to hear it.


Then Peter said to Him, "Lord, do You speak this parable only to us, or to all [people]?"


And He said, "To you it has been given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God, but to the rest [they are] in parables, that 'Seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand.'


"These things I have spoken to you in figures of speech; but the time is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figures of speech, but I will tell you plainly about the Father.
