And having dismissed the crowds, He went up on the mountain privately to pray. And when evening had come, He was there alone.


Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and said to the disciples, "Sit here while I go off and pray [over] there."


Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, "Lord, teach us to pray, just as John also taught his disciples."


Now it came to pass that when all the people were baptized, that Jesus also was baptized, and [was] praying, [that ]the heaven was opened;


Now it came to pass in those days [that] He went out to the mountain to pray, and He was spending the night in prayer to God.


So they answered and said, "John the Baptist, but some say Elijah; and others say that one of the ancient prophets has arisen."


Now it came to pass, about eight days after these words, that He took Peter, John, and James and went up on the mountain to pray.


And while He was praying, the appearance of His face [became ]different, and His clothing [became] white and glistening.
