Luke 1:17 - Easy To Read Version

17 John himself will go first before the Lord. John will be powerful like Elijah. {\cf2\super [7]} He will have the same spirit Elijah had. He will make peace between fathers and their children. Many people are not obeying God. John will bring those people back to the right way that people should think. He will make people ready for the \{coming of\} the Lord.”

Elijah was a prophet from the town of Tishbe in Gilead. Elijah said to King Ahab, “I serve the Lord God of Israel. By his power, I promise that no dew or rain will fall during the next few years. The rain will fall only if I command it to fall.”


Elijah answered, “I have not caused Israel trouble. You and your father’s family caused all this trouble. You caused the trouble when you stopped obeying the Lord’s commands and began following the false gods.


So Elijah went to Ahab. Ahab saw Elijah and said, “You have found me again. You are always against me.”


Elijah told Ahaziah, “There is a God in Israel. So why did you send messengers to ask questions from Baal Zebub, the god of Ekron. Since you did this thing, you will not get up from your bed. You will die!”


Lord, you are the God of our ancestors,\par Abraham, Isaac, and Israel. {\cf2\super [324]} \par Please help your people plan the right things.\par Help them be loyal and true to you!\par


Hezekiah and the people were very happy about the things God prepared for his people. And they were happy he did it so quickly!


Lord, you heard what poor people want.\par Listen to their prayers\par and do what they ask!\par


Wisdom begins with fear and respect\par for God.\par People who obey God are very wise.\par Praises will be sung to God forever.\par


If the people teach their God’s commands\par to their children,\par then the children will not be like\par their ancestors. {\cf2\super [444]} \par Their ancestors turned against God.\par They refused to obey him.\par Those people were stubborn.\par They were not loyal to God’s Spirit.\par


Many of these people did not understand, so they did wrong things. These people did not understand, but they will learn their lesson.”


“So I will do these things to you, Israel. I will do this to you. Israel, prepare to meet your God!


And if you will believe the things the law and the prophets said, then you will believe that John is Elijah. {\cf2\super [140]} The law and the prophets said he would come.


Herod arrested John because John told Herod: “It is not right for you to have Herodias.”


John the Baptizer is the one that Isaiah the prophet {\cf2\super [34]} was talking about. Isaiah said:


John’s clothes were made from camel’s hair. John had a leather belt around his waist. For food, John ate locusts {\cf2\super [35]} and wild honey.


John will help many Jews return to the Lord their God.


“Now you, little boy, will be called a prophet {\cf2\super [25]} of the Most High (God).\par You will go first before the Lord\par to make the people ready\par for the Lord’s coming.\par


These children were not born like little babies are born. They were not born from the wish or plan of a \{mother and\} father. These children were born from God.


So this is what I tell people: ‘He (Jesus) is the Son of God.’”


You yourselves heard me say, ‘I am not the Christ. {\cf2\super [54]} I am only the one that God sent to prepare the way for him.’


So I sent for you immediately. It was very good of you to come here. Now we are all here before God to hear everything the Lord has commanded you to tell us.”


God waited with patience so that he could make known his rich glory. God wanted to give that glory to the people that receive his mercy. God has prepared these people to have his glory.


and give thanks to the Father. He has made you able to have the things he prepared for you. He has prepared these things for all his people who live in the light (good).


The Lord wants to use you for special purposes. So make yourself clean from all those evil things. Then you will be holy, {\cf2\super [16]} and the Master can use you. You will be ready to do any good work.


But you are chosen people. You are the King’s priests. You are a holy {\cf2\super [20]} nation of people. You are people who belong to God. God chose you to tell about the wonderful things he has done. He called (brought) you out of darkness (sin) into his wonderful light.


Yes, my dear children, live in him. If we do this, we can be without fear (have confidence) on the day when Christ comes back. We will not need to hide and be ashamed when he comes.


Then I saw some thrones and people sitting on them. These were the people who had been given the power to judge. And I saw the souls of those people who had been killed because \{they were faithful to\} the truth of Jesus and the message {\cf2\super [152]} from God. Those people did not worship the animal or his idol. {\cf2\super [153]} They did not receive the mark of the animal on their foreheads or on their hands. Those people became alive again and ruled with Christ for 1,000 years.


Samuel said, “All Israel must meet at Mizpah. I will pray to the Lord for you.”
