4 Nevertheless, because thou hast given occasion to the enemies of the Lord to blaspheme, for this thing, the child that is born to thee, shall surely die.


1 And the Lord said to Solomon: Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life or riches, nor the lives of thy enemies, but hast asked for thyself wisdom to discern judgment,


9 But fear the Lord your God, and he shall deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies.


Now on a certain day when the sons of God came to stand before the Lord, Satan also was present among them.


Who is ignorant that the hand of the Lord hath made all these things?


When the Almighty was with me: and my servants round about me?


his heart is strengthened, he shall not be moved until he look over his enemies.


I will wash my hands among the innocent; and will compass thy altar, O Lord:


9 Clemency prepareth life: and the pursuing of evil things, death.


4 Well ordered words are as a honeycomb: sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.


3 Just lips are the delight of kings: he that speaketh right things shall be loved.


But he that possesseth a mind, loveth his own soul, and he that keepeth prudence shall find good things.


2 But the wicked shall be destroyed from the earth: and they that do unjustly shall be taken away from it.


3 He that hideth his sins, shall not prosper: but he that shall confess, and forsake them, shall obtain mercy.


Shew me, O thou whom my soul loveth, where thou feedest, where thou liest in the midday, lest I begin to wander after the flocks of thy companions.


4 For I say to you, that many prophets and kings have desired to see the things that you see, and have not seen them; and to hear the things that you hear, and have not heard them.


2 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom. And the rich man also died: and he was buried in hell.
