8 Hearing I heard Ephraim when he went into captivity: thou hast chastised me, and I was instructed, as a young bullock unaccustomed to the yoke. Convert me, and I shall be converted, for thou art the Lord my God.


And Nabuzardan the general of the army carried away captive to Babylon the remnant of the people that remained in the city, and the fugitives that had gone over to him, and the rest of the people that remained.


5 I beheld, and lo there was no man: and all the birds of the air were gone.


3 But the heart of this people is become hard of belief and provoking, they are revolted and gone away.


4 Thus saith the Lord the God of hosts: Because you have spoken this word, behold I will make my words in thy mouth as fire, and this people as wood, and it shall devour them.


0 And Chaldea shall be made a prey: all that waste her shall be filled, saith the Lord.


6 Gird thee with sackcloth, O daughter of my people, and sprinkle thee with ashes: make thee mourning as for an only son, a bitter lamentation, because the destroyer shall suddenly come upon us.


7 I have set thee for a strong trier among my people: and thou shalt know and prove their way.


0 Call them reprobate silver, for the Lord hath rejected them.


The word that came to Jeremias from the Lord, saying:


And a man shall mock his brother, and they will not speak the truth: for they have taught their tongue to speak lies: they have laboured to commit iniquity.


0 Return into thy sheath. I will judge thee in the place wherein thou wast created, in the land of thy nativity.
