That thy ear may hearken to wisdom: Incline thy heart to know prudence:


5 All the days of the poor are evil: a secure mind is like a continual feast.


The prudent man saw the evil, and hid himself: the simple passed on, and suffered loss.


6 A prince void of prudence shall oppress many by calumny: but he that hateth covetousness, shall prolong his days.


1 And the Lord will give thee rest continually, and will fill thy soul with brightness, and deliver thy bones, and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a fountain of water whose waters shall not fail


9 And I was as a meek lamb, that is carried to be a victim: and I knew not that they had devised counsels against me, saying: Let us put wood on his bread, and cut him off from the land of the living, and let his name be remembered no more.


2 Therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts: Behold I will visit upon them: and their young men shall die by the sword, their sons and their daughters shall die by famine.


She that hath borne seven is become weak, her soul hath fainted away: her sun is gone down, while it was yet day: she is confounded, and ashamed: and the residue of them I will give up to the sword in the sight of their enemies, saith the Lord.


2 And you also have done worse than your fathers: for behold every one of you walketh after the perverseness of his evil heart, so as not to hearken to me.


4 But I will visit upon you according to the fruit of your doings, saith the Lord: and I will kindle a fire in the forest thereof: and it shall devour all things round about it.


Therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts: Because you have not heard my words:


2 Because of all the evil of the children of Israel, and of the children of Juda, which they have done, provoking me to wrath, they and their kings, their princes, and their priests, and their prophets, the men of Juda, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.


8 All of these princes go out of the way, they walk deceitfully, they are brass and iron: they are all corrupted.


1 For the affliction of the daughter of my people I am afflicted, and made sorrowful, astonishment hath taken hold on me.


4 But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, for I am the Lord that exercise mercy, and judgment, and justice in the earth: for these things please me, saith the Lord.


Behold it is cast into the fire for fuel: the fire hath consumed both ends thereof, and the midst thereof is reduced to ashes: shall it be useful for any work?


Therefore thus saith the Lord God: As the vine tree among the trees of the forests which I have given to the fire to be consumed, so will I deliver up the inhabitants of Jerusalem.


And the slaughter being ended I was left: and I fell upon my face, and crying, I said: Alas, alas, alas, O Lord God, wilt thou then destroy all the remnant of Israel, by pouring out thy fury upon Jerusalem?


4 For I will be like a lioness to Ephraim, and like a lion's whelp to the house of Juda: I, I will catch, and go: I will take away, and there is none that can rescue.


Pass ye over to Chalane, and see, and go from thence into Emath the great: and go down into Geth of the Philistines, and to all the best kingdoms of these: if their border be larger than your border.


2 Therefore, because of you, Sion shall be ploughed as a field, and Jerusalem shall be as a heap of stones, and the mountain of the temple as the high places of the forests.


Thus saith the Lord of hosts : Behold I will save my people from the land of the east, and from the land of the going down of the sun.


And you shall know that I sent you this commandment, that my covenant might be with Levi, saith the Lord of hosts.


And the sacrifice of Juda and of Jerusalem shall please the Lord, as in the days of old, and in the ancient years.


7 For the great day of their wrath is come, and who shall be able to stand?
