Then the king said to me: For what dost thou make request? And I prayed to the God of heaven,


2 Receive the law of his mouth, and lay up his words in thy heart.


7 The earth opened and swallowed up Dathan: and covered the congregation of Abiron.


For it is a people that provoketh to wrath, and lying children, children that will not hear the law of God.


0 Who say to the seers: See not: and to them that behold: Behold not for us those things that are right: speak unto us pleasant things, see errors for us.


And his strength shall pass away with dread, and his princes fleeing shall be afraid: the Lord hath said it, whose die is in Sion, and his furnace in Jerusalem.


2 Let them come, and tell us all things that are to come: tell us the former things what they were: and we will set our heart upon them, and shall know the latter end of them, and tell us the things that are to come.


All the nations are assembled together, and the tribes are gathered: who among you can declare this, and shall make us hear the former things? let them bring forth their witnesses, let them be justified, and hear, and say: It is truth.


1 This is my covenant with them, saith the Lord: My spirit that is in thee, and my words that I have put in thy mouth, shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor out of the mouth of thy seed, nor out of the mouth of thy seed's seed, saith the Lord, from henceforth and for ever.


6 For thou art our father, and Abraham hath not known us, and Israel hath been ignorant of us: thou, O Lord, art our father, our redeemer, from everlasting is thy name.


8 If I go forth into the fields, behold the slain with the sword: and if I enter into the city, behold them that are consumed with famine. The prophet also and the priest are gone into a land which they knew not.


Men, and women, and children, and the king's daughters, and every soul, which Nabuzardan the general had left with Godolias the son of Ahicam the son of Saphan, and Jeremias the prophet, and Baruch the son of Nerias.


7 Every man is become foolish by his knowledge: every founder is confounded by his idol, for what he hath cast is a lie, and there is no breath in them.


3 But this thing I commanded them, saying: Hearken to my voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be my people: and walk ye in all the way that I have commanded you, that it may be well with you.

1 Because thou hast built thy brothel house at the head of every way, and thou hast made thy high place in every street: and wast not as a harlot that by disdain enhanceth her price,

Moreover take thou up a lamentation for the princes of Israel,


4 I will feed them in the most fruitful pastures, and their pastures shall be in the high mountains of Israel: there shall they rest on the green grass, and be fed in fat pastures upon the mountains of Israel.


And Ephraim said: But yet I am be- come rich, I have found me an idol: all my labours shall not find me the iniquity that I have committed.


0 They shall walk after the Lord, he shall roar as a lion: because he shall roar, and the children of the sea shall fear.


5 I will go and return to my place: until you are consumed, and seek my face.


Strangers have devoured his strength, and he knew it not: yea, grey hairs also are spread about upon him, and he is ignorant of it.


1 And Ephraim is become as a dove that is decoyed, not having a heart: they called upon Egypt, they went to the Assyrians.


For now they shall say: We have no king: because we fear not the Lord: and what shall a king do to us?


And the high places of the idol, the sin of Israel shall be destroyed: the bur and the thistle shall grow up over their altars: and they shall say to the mountains: Cover us; and to the hills: Fall upon us.


And Jonas prayed to the Lord his God out of the belly of the fish.


1 And they said to him: What shall we do to thee, that the sea may be calm to us? for the sea flowed and swelled.


He that is best among them, is as a brier: and he that is righteous, as the thorn of the hedge. The day of thy inspection, thy visitation cometh: now shall be their destruction.


2 By which her rich men were filled with iniquity, and the inhabitants thereof have spoken lies, and their tongue was deceitful in their mouth.


And you shall hear of wars and rumours of wars. See that ye be not troubled. For these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.


0 In the sight of the Lord thy God shalt thou eat them every year, in the place that the Lord shall choose, thou and thy house.


He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now.


And they had breastplates as breastplates of iron, and the noise of their wings was as the noise of chariots and many horses running to battle.
