But if we confess (admit) our sins, then God will forgive our sins. We can trust God to do this. God does what is right. God will make us clean from all the wrong things we have done.
and if my people who are called by my name become humble and pray, and look for me, and turn away from their evil ways, then I will hear them from heaven. And I will forgive their sin and I will heal their land.
God, be merciful to me,\par because of your great loving kindness,\par because of your great mercy,\par erase all my sins.\parGod, scrub away my guilt.\par Wash away my sins,\par Make me clean again!\par
Evil people should stop living evil lives.\par They should stop thinking bad thoughts.\par They should come to the Lord again.\par Then the Lord will comfort them.\par Those people should come to the Lord\par because our God forgives.\par
I have not come to ask good people to change. I have come to ask bad people to change their hearts and lives!”
God has been very kind to you. And he has been patient with you. God has been waiting for you to change. But you think nothing of his kindness. Maybe you don’t understand that God is kind to you so that you will change your hearts and lives.
Peter said to them, “Change your hearts and lives and be baptized, {\cf2\super [42]} each one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ. Then God will forgive your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. {\cf2\super [43]}
A person that hides his sins will not be successful. But a person that confesses his sins and stops doing wrong will receive mercy.
In the same way, I tell you, heaven is a happy place when one sinner changes his heart. There is more joy for that one sinner than there is for 99 good people that don’t need to change their hearts.
The Lord says, “Come, let’s discuss these things. Your sins are red like scarlet, {\cf2\super [11]} but they can be \{washed away and you will be\} white like snow. Your sins are bright red, but you can become white like wool.
But then I decided to confess all my sins to the Lord.\par Lord, I told you about my sins.\par I did not hide any of my guilt.\par And you forgave me for all my sins!\par \i (SELAH {\cf2\super [200]})\i0 \par
From that time Jesus began to tell people \{what God wanted\}. This is what he said: “Change your hearts and lives, because the kingdom of heaven is coming soon.”
“Now, if a bad person changes his life then he will live and not die. That person might stop doing all the bad things he did. He might begin to carefully obey all my laws. He might become fair and good.God won’t remember all the bad things he did. God will remember only his goodness! So that man will live!”The Lord my Master says, “I don’t want bad people to die. I want them to change their lives so they can live!
The Lord is not being slow in doing what he promised—the way some people understand slowness. But God is being patient with you. God doesn’t want any person to be lost. God wants every person to change his heart and stop sinning.
This is the Lord’s message:\par “Now come back to me with all your heart,\par \{You did bad things,\}\par cry, cry and don’t eat any food!\parTear your hearts, not your clothes.” {\cf2\super [13]} \par Come back to the Lord your God.\par He is kind and merciful.\par He does not become angry quickly.\par He has great love.\par Maybe he will change his mind\par about the bad \{punishment he planned\}.\par
I will tell you something. Go and learn what it means: ‘I don’t want animal sacrifices; I want you to show kindness to people.’ {\cf2\super [106]} I did not come to invite good people. I came to invite sinners.”
The Lord my Master, the Holy One of Israel, says, “If you come back to me you will be saved. The only strength you have will come if you trust me. But you must be calm.”
But you must recognize your sin.\par You turned against the Lord your God.\par That is your sin.\par You worshiped the idols of people\par from other nations.\par You worshiped those idols\par under every green tree.\par You did not obey me.’”\par This message was from the Lord.\par
Come near to God and God will come near to you. You are sinners. So clean sin out of your lives. {\cf2\super [23]} You are trying to follow God and the world at the same time. Make your thinking pure.
\{God said,\} “I will also put a new spirit in you \{and change your way of thinking\}. I will take out the heart of stone from your body and give you a tender, human heart.
In the past, people did not understand God, but God ignored this. But now, God tells every person in the world to change his heart and life.
Your sins were like a big cloud.\par But I wiped away those sins.\par Your sins are gone,\par like a cloud that disappeared into thin air.\par I rescued and protected you,\par so come back to me!”\par
Lord, if you really punished people\par for all of their sins,\par no person would be left alive.\parLord, forgive your people.\par Then there will be people to worship you.\par
Lord, I wandered away from you.\par But I learned about the bad things I did.\par So I changed my heart and life.\par I am ashamed and embarrassed about the foolish things I did when I was young.’\par
When some people have troubles\par they stop being proud.\par The Lord is close to those humble people.\par He will save them. {\cf2\super [211]} \par
Lord, I have done many wrong things.\par But, to show your goodness,\par you forgave me for everything I did.\par
My dear children, I write this letter to you so that you will not sin. But if any person sins, we have Jesus Christ to help us. He is the righteous (good) One. Jesus defends us before God the Father.Jesus is the way our sins are taken away. And Jesus is the way that all people can have their sins taken away, too.
A foolish person laughs at the idea of paying for the bad things he did. But good people try very hard to get forgiveness.
When people sin, they earn what sin pays—death. But God gives his people a free gift—life forever in Christ Jesus our Lord.
And God has taken our sins\par as far away from us\par as the east is from the west.\par
Then, the Lord said,\par “Jeremiah, if you change\par and come back to me,\par then I will not punish you.\par If you change and come back to me,\par then you can serve me.\par If you speak important things,\par and not those worthless words,\par then you can speak for me.\par The people of Judah should change\par and come back to you \{Jeremiah\}.\par But don’t you change\par and be like them.\par
I will leave and go to my father. I will say to him: Father, I sinned against God and have done wrong to you.I am not good enough to be called your son. But let me be like one of your servants.’
“I, I am the One who wipes away all your sins. I do this to please myself. I will not remember your sins.
When the Jewish believers heard these things, they stopped arguing. They praised God and said, “So God is allowing the non-Jewish people to change their hearts and have life the same as us!”
Master, you are good and merciful.\par Your people call to you for help.\par You really love those people.\par
Now I am happy. My happiness is not because you were made sad. I am happy because your sorrow made you change your hearts. You became sad like God wanted. So you were not hurt by us in any way.Being sorry like God wants makes a person change his heart and life. This leads a person to salvation, and we cannot be sorry for that. But the kind of sorrow the world has will bring death.
The sacrifice that God wants\par is an humble spirit. {\cf2\super [306]} \par God, you will not turn away a person\par who comes with an humble, submissive heart. {\cf2\super [307]} \par
In Christ we are made free by Christ’s blood (death). We have forgiveness of sins because of God’s rich grace.
So surely the blood of Christ can do much, much more. Christ offered himself through the eternal Spirit {\cf2\super [106]} as a perfect sacrifice {\cf2\super [107]} to God. His blood will make us fully clean from the evil things we have done. His blood will make us pure even in our hearts. We are made pure so that we can worship (serve) the living God.
Then Jesus said, “I tell you the truth. You must change and become like little children \{in your hearts\}. If you don’t do this, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.
So John the Baptizer came and was baptizing people in the desert area. He told the people to be baptized {\cf2\super [5]} to show they wanted to change their lives. Then their sins would be forgiven.
God is high and lifted up.\par God lives forever.\par God’s name is holy.\par God says:\par I live in a high and holy place,\par but also with people that are\par sad and humble.\par I will give new life to the people\par that are humble in spirit.\par I will give new life to the people\par that are sad in their hearts.\par
Zacchaeus said to the Lord (Jesus), “I want to do good. I will give half of my money to the poor. If I have cheated any person, I will pay that person back four times more!”Jesus said, “Today is the day for this family to be saved from sin. Yes, even this tax collector is one of God’s chosen people {\cf2\super [298]} !
I began telling people that they should change their hearts and lives and turn back to God. I told the people to do things that show that they really changed their hearts. I told these things first to people in Damascus. Then I went to Jerusalem and to every part of Judea and told these things to the people there. I also went to the non-Jewish people.
In that faraway land, your people will think about what happened. They will be sorry for their sins, and they will pray to you. There is no God like you.\par You take away people’s guilt.\parHe will come back and comfort us again.\par He will crush our guilt\par and throw all of our sins\par into the deep sea.\par
Don’t remember the sins and bad things\par that I did when I was young.\par For your good name, Lord,\par remember me with love.\par
What I say is true, and you should fully accept it: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. And I am the worst of those sinners.

I know I sinned.\par I always see those sins.\parI did the things you say are wrong.\par God, you are the One I sinned against.\par I confess these things so people will know\par I am wrong, and you are right.\par Your decisions are fair.\par
Christ carried our sins in his body on the cross. He did this so that we would stop living for sin and live for what is right. By his (Christ’s) wounds you were healed.
What great blessings there are for the people that are sad now!\par God will comfort them.\par
I wandered away like a lost sheep.\par Come looking for me, Lord.\par I am your servant,\par and I have not forgotten your commands.\par
But he was given pain to suffer for the wrong things we did. He was crushed for our guilt. A debt we owed—our punishment—was given to him. We were healed (forgiven) because of his pain.
In the past, some of you were like that. But you were washed clean, you were made holy, {\cf2\super [36]} and you were made right with God in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
But Christ died for us while we were still sinners. In that way God showed us that he loves us very much.
Trust the Lord completely! Don’t depend on your own knowledge.Think about God in all that you do. Then he will help you.
Lord, look at me and know my heart.\par Test me and know my thoughts.\parSee if I have any evil thoughts.\par And guide me on the path\par that continues forever. {\cf2\super [636]} \par
Don’t change yourselves to be like the people of this world. But let God change you inside with a new way of thinking. Then you will be able to decide and accept what God wants for you. You will be able to know what things are good and pleasing to God and what things are perfect.
“You must say to them, ‘The Lord my Master says: On my life, I promise, I don’t enjoy seeing people die—not even evil people! I don’t want them to die. I want those evil people to come back to me. I want them to change their lives so they can really live! So come back to me! Stop doing bad things! Why must you die, family of Israel?’
Don’t judge me, your servant.\par Never, in all my life, could I ever be judged innocent.\par
Jesus is the only One who can save people. His name is the only power in the world that has been given to save people. We must be saved through Jesus!”
We pray that God himself, the God of peace, will make you pure—belonging only to him. We pray that your whole self—spirit, soul, and body—will be kept safe and be without wrong when our Lord Jesus Christ comes.
All people have sinned and are not good enough for God’s glory.People are made right with God by his grace (kindness). This is a free gift. People are made right with God by being made free from sin through Jesus Christ.
So we should be finished with the beginning lessons about Christ. We should not go back to the things we started with. We began \{our life in Christ\} by turning away from the evil things we did before and by believing in God.
I mean that you are saved by grace. And you got that grace by believing. You did not save yourselves. It was a gift from God.No! You are not saved by the things you have done. So no person can boast \{that he saved himself\}.
We have small troubles for a while now, but those troubles are helping us gain an eternal glory. That eternal glory is much greater than the troubles.
No, they were not! But if all of you don’t change your hearts and lives, then you will be destroyed like those people were!
Forgive the sins we have done,\par the same as we have forgiven the people\par that did wrong to us.\par
\{Lord,\} no person can see all of his own mistakes.\par So don’t let me do secret sins.\parDon’t let me do the sins I want to do.\par Don’t let those sins rule me.\par If you help me, then I can be pure\par and free from my sins.\par
Dear friends, we have these promises \{from God\}. So we should make ourselves pure—free from anything that makes our body or our soul unclean. We should try to become perfect in the way we live, because we respect God.
My heart was pure,\par so my Master listened to me.\parGod listened to me.\par God heard my prayer.\parPraise God!\par God did not turn away from me—\par he listened to my prayer.\par God showed his love to me!\par
Jesus answered, “I am the way. I am the truth and the life. The only way to the Father is through me.
True love and loyalty will make you pure. {\cf2\super [21]} Respect the Lord, and you will stay far away from evil.
We have been made right with God because of our faith. So we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
My dear friends, if we don’t feel that we are doing wrong, then we can be without fear (have confidence) when we come to God.
Evil people have gathered around me.\par They are too many to count!\par My sins have caught me,\par and I can’t escape them.\par They are more than the hairs on my head.\par I have lost my courage.\par
The son said, ‘Father, I sinned against God and have done wrong to you. I am not good enough to be called your son.’
The prayer that is said with faith will make the sick person well. The Lord will heal that person. And if that person has sinned, then God will forgive those sins.Always tell each other the wrong things you have done. Then pray for each other. Do this so that God can heal you. When a good person prays hard, great things happen.
The Lord’s servant must gently teach those people that don’t agree with him. True love is God’s love for us, not our love for God. God sent his Son to be the way that God takes away our sins.
We have been cleansed and made free from feelings of guilt. And our bodies have been washed with pure water. So come near to God with a sincere (true) heart, feeling sure because of our faith.
You were taught to leave your old self. This means that you must stop living the evil way you lived before. That old self becomes worse and worse, because people are fooled by the evil things they want to do.You must be made new in your hearts and in your thinking.You must become a new person, made to be like God—made to be truly good and holy. {\cf2\super [35]}

That grace teaches us to live on earth now in a wise and right way—a way that shows that we serve God.
The Lord lifts up people who have fallen.\par The Lord helps people who are in trouble.\par
I tell you that her many sins are forgiven. This is clear, because she showed great love. But the person that feels only a little need to be forgiven will feel only a little love when he is forgiven.”
In the past you were \{full of\} darkness (sin), but now you are \{full of\} light (goodness) in the Lord. So live like children who belong to the light.
Because you have these blessings, you should try as much as you can to add these things to your life: to your faith add goodness; and to your goodness add knowledge;and to your knowledge add self-control; and to your self-control add patience; and to your patience add service for God;and to your service for God add kindness for your brothers and sisters \{in Christ\}; and to this kindness for your brothers and sisters add love.If all these things are in you and they are growing, then these things will help you to never be useless. These things will help you to never be worthless in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.But if a person does not have these things, then he cannot see clearly. That person is blind. He has forgotten that he was cleansed (forgiven) from his past sins.
Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, when my brother won’t stop doing wrong to me, how many times must I forgive him? Should I forgive him as many as seven times?”Jesus answered, “I tell you, you must forgive him more than seven times. You must continue to forgive him even if he does wrong to you seventy-seven times. {\cf2\super [256]} ”
God, you have hidden away many wonderful things for your followers.\par You do good things in front of everyone for the people who trust you.\par

John came showing you the right way to live. And you did not believe John. But the tax collectors and prostitutes believed John. And you saw that the tax collectors and prostitutes believed him. But you still refused to change and believe him.
Jesus is the One that God raised to his right side. God made Jesus our Leader and Savior. God did this so that all Jews can change their hearts and lives. Then God can forgive their sins.

A person's spirit is like a lamp to the Lord. The Lord is able to see into the deepest parts of a person. {\cf2\super [29]}
We have those many people \{of faith\} around us. Their lives tell us what faith means. So we should be like them. We too should run the race that is before us and never stop trying. We should take away \{from our lives\} anything that would stop us. And we should take away the sin that so easily catches us.We should always follow the example of Jesus. Jesus is the leader in our faith. And he makes our faith perfect. He suffered death on the cross. But Jesus accepted the shame of the cross like it was nothing. He did this because of the joy that God put before him. And now he is sitting at the right side of God’s throne.
Also, the Spirit {\cf2\super [68]} helps us. We are very weak, but the Spirit helps us with our weakness. We don’t know how to pray like we should. But the Spirit himself speaks to God for us. The Spirit begs God for us. The Spirit speaks to God with deep feelings that words cannot explain.God can see what is in people’s hearts. And God knows what is in the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit speaks to God for his people in the way that God wants.
