64 Bible Verses about Bad Offering

When you choose to live without God, it's easy to lose that awareness of Him and start making choices that aren't aligned with His ways. Maybe you haven't truly encountered Him yet. Our hearts can be so deceitful, always looking for ways to satisfy our own twisted desires, driven by that inner restlessness.

The only way to live a righteous life is to keep God's word close to your heart and follow His will. That's how genuine goodness grows from deep within.

God isn't pleased when offerings are misused. They should be used to grow His work and spread the Gospel to everyone, fulfilling the command He gave us. Prayer is key to making sure your offerings are used the right way and that you're following God's leading.

Luke 21:1-4

Looking up, Jesus saw people, especially the rich, dropping their gifts into the temple offering box.

Then Jesus continued, “Nation will fight against nation and kingdom against kingdom.

There will be terrible earthquakes, famines, and dreadful diseases in various places. Terrifying sights and miraculous signs will come from the sky.

“Before all these things happen, people will arrest and persecute you. They will hand you over to their synagogues and put you into their prisons. They will drag you in front of kings and governors because of my name.

It will be your opportunity to testify to them.

So make up your minds not to worry beforehand how you will defend yourselves.

I will give you words and wisdom that none of your enemies will be able to oppose or prove wrong.

“Even parents, brothers, relatives, and friends will betray you and kill some of you.

He noticed a poor widow drop in two small coins.

“When you see armies camped around Jerusalem, realize that the time is near for it to be destroyed.

Then those of you in Judea should flee to the mountains. Those of you in Jerusalem should leave it. Those of you in the fields shouldn’t go back into them.

This will be a time of vengeance. Everything that is written about it will come true.

“How horrible it will be for women who are pregnant or who are nursing babies in those days. Indeed, the land will suffer very hard times, and its people will be punished.

Swords will cut them down, and they will be carried off into all nations as prisoners. Nations will trample Jerusalem until the times allowed for the nations ⌞to do this⌟ are over.

“Miraculous signs will occur in the sun, moon, and stars. The nations of the earth will be deeply troubled and confused because of the roaring and tossing of the sea.

“Then people will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.

“When these things begin to happen, stand with confidence! The time when you will be set free is near.”

Then Jesus used this story as an illustration. “Look at the fig tree or any other tree.

He said, “I can guarantee this truth: This poor widow has given more than all the others.

As soon as leaves grow on them, you know without being told that summer is near.

In the same way, when you see these things happen, you know that God’s kingdom is near.

“I can guarantee this truth: This generation will not disappear until all this takes place.

The earth and the heavens will disappear, but my words will never disappear.

“Make sure that you don’t become drunk, hung over, and worried about life. Then that day could suddenly catch you by surprise

like a trap that catches a bird. That day will surprise all people who live on the earth.

Be alert at all times. Pray so that you have the power to escape everything that is about to happen and to stand in front of the Son of Man.”

What should I bring when I come into the Lord’s presence, when I bow in front of the God of heaven? Should I bring him year-old calves as burnt offerings?

Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams or with endless streams of olive oil? Should I give him my firstborn child because of my rebellious acts? Should I give him my young child for my sin?

You mortals, the Lord has told you what is good. This is what the Lord requires from you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to live humbly with your God.

Matthew 6:1-4

“Be careful not to do your good works in public in order to attract attention. If you do, your Father in heaven will not reward you.

Let your kingdom come. Let your will be done on earth as it is done in heaven.

Give us our daily bread today.

Forgive us as we forgive others.

Don’t allow us to be tempted. Instead, rescue us from the evil one.

“If you forgive the failures of others, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.

But if you don’t forgive others, your Father will not forgive your failures.

“When you fast, stop looking sad like hypocrites. They put on sad faces to make it obvious that they’re fasting. I can guarantee this truth: That will be their only reward.

When you fast, wash your face and comb your hair.

Then your fasting won’t be obvious. Instead, it will be obvious to your Father who is with you in private. Your Father sees what you do in private. He will reward you.

“Stop storing up treasures for yourselves on earth, where moths and rust destroy and thieves break in and steal.

So when you give to the poor, don’t announce it with trumpet fanfare. This is what hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets in order to be praised by people. I can guarantee this truth: That will be their only reward.

Instead, store up treasures for yourselves in heaven, where moths and rust don’t destroy and thieves don’t break in and steal.

Your heart will be where your treasure is.

“The eye is the lamp of the body. So if your eye is unclouded, your whole body will be full of light.

But if your eye is evil, your whole body will be full of darkness. If the light in you is darkness, how dark it will be!

“No one can serve two masters. He will hate the first master and love the second, or he will be devoted to the first and despise the second. You cannot serve God and wealth.

“So I tell you to stop worrying about what you will eat, drink, or wear. Isn’t life more than food and the body more than clothes?

“Look at the birds. They don’t plant, harvest, or gather the harvest into barns. Yet, your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you worth more than they?

“Can any of you add a single hour to your life by worrying?

“And why worry about clothes? Notice how the flowers grow in the field. They never work or spin yarn for clothes.

But I say that not even Solomon in all his majesty was dressed like one of these flowers.

When you give to the poor, don’t let your left hand know what your right hand is doing.

That’s the way God clothes the grass in the field. Today it’s alive, and tomorrow it’s thrown into an incinerator. So how much more will he clothe you people who have so little faith?

“Don’t ever worry and say, ‘What are we going to eat?’ or ‘What are we going to drink?’ or ‘What are we going to wear?’

Everyone is concerned about these things, and your heavenly Father certainly knows you need all of them.

But first, be concerned about his kingdom and what has his approval. Then all these things will be provided for you.

“So don’t ever worry about tomorrow. After all, tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Give your contributions privately. Your Father sees what you do in private. He will reward you.

Ecclesiastes 5:1-2

Watch your step when you go to the house of God. It is better to go there and listen than to bring the sacrifices fools bring. Fools are unaware that they are doing ⌞something⌟ evil.

Whoever loves money will never be satisfied with money. Whoever loves wealth will never be satisfied with more income. Even this is pointless.

As the number of goods increase, so do the number of people who consume them. What do owners gain ⌞from all their goods⌟ except ⌞the opportunity⌟ to look at them?

The sleep of working people is sweet, whether they eat a little or a lot. But the full stomachs that rich people have will not allow them to sleep.

There is a painful tragedy that I have seen under the sun: Riches lead to the downfall of those who hoard them.

These hoarded riches were then lost in bad business deals. The owners had children, but now they have nothing to give them.

They came from their mother’s womb naked. They will leave as naked as they came. They won’t even be able to take a handful of their earnings with them from all their hard work.

This also is a painful tragedy: They leave exactly as they came. What advantage do they gain from working so hard for the wind?

They spend their entire lives in darkness, in constant frustration, sickness, and resentment.

At last I have seen what is good and beautiful: It is to eat and drink and to enjoy the good in all our hard work under the sun during the brief lives God gives us. That is our lot ⌞in life⌟.

It is a gift from God when God gives some people wealth and possessions, the power to enjoy them, ⌞the ability⌟ to accept their lot in life, and ⌞the ability⌟ to rejoice in their own hard work.

Don’t be in a hurry to talk. Don’t be eager to speak in the presence of God. Since God is in heaven and you are on earth, limit the number of your words.

with whatever contributions you have. Since you are willing to do this, ⌞remember⌟ that people are accepted if they give what they are able to give. God doesn’t ask for what they don’t have.

I don’t mean that others should have relief while you have hardship. Rather, it’s a matter of striking a balance.

At the present time, your surplus fills their need so that their surplus may fill your need. In this way things balance out.

This is what Scripture says: “Those who had gathered a lot didn’t have too much, and those who gathered a little didn’t have too little.”

Acts 5:1-4

A man named Ananias and his wife Sapphira sold some property.

Immediately, she dropped dead in front of Peter. When the young men came back, they found Sapphira dead. So they carried her outside and buried her next to her husband.

The whole church and everyone else who heard about what had happened were terrified.

The people saw the apostles perform many miracles and do amazing things. The believers had a common faith in Jesus as they met on Solomon’s Porch.

None of the other people dared to join them, although everyone spoke highly of them.

More men and women than ever began to believe in the Lord.

As a result, people carried their sick into the streets. They placed them on stretchers and cots so that at least Peter’s shadow might fall on some sick people as he went by.

Crowds from the cities around Jerusalem would gather. They would bring their sick and those who were troubled by evil spirits, and each person was cured.

The chief priest and the whole party of the Sadducees who were with him were extremely jealous. So they took action

by arresting the apostles and putting them in the city jail.

But at night an angel from the Lord opened the doors to their cell and led them out of the prison.

They agreed to hold back some of the money ⌞they had pledged⌟ and turned only part of it over to the apostles.

The angel told them, “Stand in the temple courtyard, and tell the people everything about life ⌞in Christ⌟.”

Early in the morning, after they had listened to the angel, the apostles went into the temple courtyard and began to teach. The chief priest and those who were with him called together the Jewish council, that is, all the leaders of Israel. They also sent men to the prison to get the apostles.

When the temple guards arrived at the prison, they didn’t find the apostles. The guards came back and reported,

“We found the prison securely locked and the guards standing at the doors. However, when we opened the doors, we found no one inside.”

When the officer of the temple guards and the chief priests heard this, they were puzzled about what could have happened.

Then someone told them, “The men you put in prison are standing in the temple courtyard. They’re teaching the people.”

Then the officer of the temple guards went with some of his men to bring back the apostles without using force. After all, the officer and his guards were afraid that the people would stone them to death for using force.

When they brought back the apostles, they made them stand in front of the council. The chief priest questioned them.

He said, “We gave you strict orders not to mention Jesus’ name when you teach. Yet, you’ve filled Jerusalem with your teachings. You want to take revenge on us for putting that man to death.”

Peter and the other apostles answered, “We must obey God rather than people.

Peter asked, “Ananias, why did you let Satan fill you with the idea that you could deceive the Holy Spirit? You’ve held back some of the money you received for the land.

You murdered Jesus by hanging him on a cross. But the God of our ancestors brought him back to life.

God used his power to give Jesus the honored position—the one next to him on the heavenly throne as leader and savior. He did this to lead the people of Israel to him, to change the way they think and act, and to forgive their sins.

We are witnesses to these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.”

When the men on the council heard this, they became furious and wanted to execute the apostles.

But a Pharisee named Gamaliel stood up. He was a highly respected expert in Moses’ Teachings. He ordered that the apostles should be taken outside for a little while.

Then he said to the council, “Men of Israel, consider carefully what you do with these men.

Some time ago Theudas appeared. He claimed that he was important, and about four hundred men joined him. He was killed, and all his followers were scattered. The whole movement was a failure.

“After that man, at the time of the census, Judas from Galilee appeared and led people in a revolt. He, too, died, and all his followers were scattered.

“We should keep away from these men for now. We should leave them alone. I can guarantee that if the plan they put into action is of human origin, it will fail.

However, if it’s from God, you won’t be able to stop them. You may even discover that you’re fighting against God.”

While you had the land, it was your own. After it was sold, you could have done as you pleased with the money. So how could you do a thing like this? You didn’t lie to people but to God!”

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, all glory and honor to You. In Jesus' name, I come before You acknowledging that You are the Owner and Creator of everything. You've entrusted me to be a steward of my family, health, job, possessions, and finances, and I don't want to misuse what is Yours. Lord, please help me to be a good steward and faithful in my tithes and offerings. Help me to always remember that a tenth of everything I receive isn't mine, but Yours. Father, I don't want to fail You, or be a thief, or be under a curse for stealing what belongs to You. Teach me to have a grateful heart and to give my tithes and offerings freely and thankfully for all I've received from Your hand. In Jesus' name, Amen.
