Behold, you are relying now on Egypt, that broken reed of a staff, which will pierce the hand of any man who leans on it. Such is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who rely on him.


Trust in a faithless man in time of trouble is like a bad tooth or a foot that slips.


Then they shall be dismayed and confounded because of Ethiopia their hope and of Egypt their boast.


Therefore shall the protection of Pharaoh turn to your shame, and the shelter in the shadow of Egypt to your humiliation.


Behold, you are relying on Egypt, that broken reed of a staff, which will pierce the hand of any man who leans on it. Such is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who rely on him.


Our eyes failed, ever watching vainly for help; in our watching we watched for a nation which could not save.


And it shall never again be the reliance of the house of Israel, recalling their iniquity, when they turn to them for aid. Then they will know that I am the Lord God.”


Yet she was carried away, she went into captivity; her little ones were dashed in pieces at the head of every street; for her honored men lots were cast, and all her great men were bound in chains.


Ethiopia was her strength, Egypt too, and that without limit; Put and the Libyans were her helpers.
