He said, “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering upon one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.”


Now Israel loved Joseph more than any other of his children, because he was the son of his old age; and he made him a long robe with sleeves.


Now Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers they only hated him the more.


After this the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, became ill; and his illness was so severe that there was no breath left in him.


And he said to his father, “Oh, my head, my head!” The father said to his servant, “Carry him to his mother.”


And she went up and laid him on the bed of the man of God, and shut the door upon him, and went out.


“Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you.


As one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you; you shall be comforted in Jerusalem.


(and a sword will pierce through your own soul also), that thoughts out of many hearts may be revealed.”


As he drew near to the gate of the city, behold, a man who had died was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow; and a large crowd from the city was with her.


Then Jesus told them plainly, “Lazarus is dead;


So the sisters sent to him, saying, “Lord, he whom you love is ill.”


Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus.
