And he said, Be it far from me, O Lord, that I should do this: is not this the blood of the men that went in jeopardy of their lives? therefore he would not drink it. These things did these three mighty men.


because of the Chalde´ans: for they were afraid of them, because Ish´ma-el the son of Nethani´ah had slain Gedali´ah the son of Ahi´kam, whom the king of Babylon made governor in the land.


saying, No; but we will go into the land of Egypt, where we shall see no war, nor hear the sound of the trumpet, nor have hunger of bread; and there will we dwell:


then it shall come to pass, that the sword, which ye feared, shall overtake you there in the land of Egypt; and the famine, whereof ye were afraid, shall follow close after you there in Egypt; and there ye shall die.


And there came an angel of the Lord, and sat under an oak which was in Ophrah, that pertained unto Jo´ash the Abi-ez´rite: and his son Gideon threshed wheat by the winepress, to hide it from the Mid´i-anites.
