Now these are the generations of the sons of Noah; Shem, Ham, and Japheth: and unto them were sons born after the flood.


And the border of the Canaanites was from Sidon, as thou comest to Gerar, unto Gaza; as thou goest unto Sodom, and Gomor´rah, and Admah, and Zebo´im, even unto Lasha.


And Abraham journeyed from thence toward the south country, and dwelt between Kadesh and Shur, and sojourned in Gerar.


And there was a famine in the land, besides the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. And Isaac went unto Abim´elech king of the Philistines unto Gerar.


And they journeyed: and the terror of God was upon the cities that were round about them, and they did not pursue after the sons of Jacob.


For at that time day by day there came to David to help him, until it was a great host, like the host of God.


with twelve hundred chariots, and threescore thousand horsemen: and the people were without number that came with him out of Egypt; the Lubim, the Suk´ki-im, and the Ethiopians.


And they smote all the cities round about Gerar; for the fear of the Lord came upon them: and they spoiled all the cities; for there was exceeding much spoil in them.


And they offered unto the Lord the same time, of the spoil which they had brought, seven hundred oxen and seven thousand sheep.


And the fear of the Lord fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands that were round about Judah, so that they made no war against Jehosh´aphat.


And the fear of God was on all the kingdoms of those countries, when they had heard that the Lord fought against the enemies of Israel.


Even that it would please God to destroy me; that he would let loose his hand, and cut me off!


He is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who hath hardened himself against him, and hath prospered?


Wilt not thou, O God, who hast cast us off? And wilt not thou, O God, go forth with our hosts?


who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;


And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the Lord am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his servant?


I pray thee, forgive the trespass of thine handmaid: for the Lord will certainly make my lord a sure house; because my lord fighteth the battles of the Lord, and evil hath not been found in thee all thy days.
