But as for the children of Israel which dwelt in the cities of Judah, Rehobo´am reigned over them.


And Rehobo´am the son of Solomon reigned in Judah. Rehobo´am was forty and one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the Lord did choose out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his name there. And his mother's name was Na´amah an Ammonitess.


And they shall answer, Because they forsook the Lord their God, who brought forth their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and have taken hold upon other gods, and have worshipped them, and served them: therefore hath the Lord brought upon them all this evil.


Also Judah kept not the commandments of the Lord their God, but walked in the statutes of Israel which they made.


So they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and made Rehobo´am the son of Solomon strong, three years: for three years they walked in the way of David and Solomon.


And he dealt wisely, and dispersed of all his children throughout all the countries of Judah and Benjamin, unto every fenced city: and he gave them victuals in abundance. And he desired many wives.


Speak unto Rehobo´am the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying,


So king Rehobo´am strengthened himself in Jerusalem, and reigned: for Rehobo´am was one and forty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the Lord had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his name there. And his mother's name was Na´amah an Ammonitess.


And they left the house of the Lord God of their fathers, and served groves and idols: and wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem for this their trespass.


Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters: they have forsaken the Lord, they have provoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger, they are gone away backward.


O generation, see ye the word of the Lord. Have I been a wilderness unto Israel? a land of darkness? wherefore say my people, We are lords; we will come no more unto thee?


When E´phra-im spake trembling, he exalted himself in Israel; but when he offended in Ba´al, he died.


For the statutes of Omri are kept, and all the works of the house of Ahab, and ye walk in their counsels; that I should make thee a desolation, and the inhabitants thereof a hissing: therefore ye shall bear the reproach of my people.


But Jesh´urun waxed fat, and kicked: thou art waxen fat, thou art grown thick, thou art covered with fatness; then he forsook God which made him, and lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation.


Of the Rock that begat thee thou art unmindful, and hast forgotten God that formed thee.


Whithersoever they went out, the hand of the Lord was against them for evil, as the Lord had said, and as the Lord had sworn unto them: and they were greatly distressed.
