I said to the king, “Let the king live for ever! Why should not my face be sad, when the city, the place of my fathers' sepulchres, lies waste, and its gates have been destroyed by fire?”


With violence it seizes my garment; it binds me about like the collar of my tunic.


My flesh is clothed with worms and dirt; my skin hardens, then breaks out afresh.


For my days pass away like smoke, and my bones burn like a furnace.


They say, “A deadly thing has fastened upon him; he will not rise again from where he lies.”


Immediately an angel of the Lord smote him, because he did not give God the glory; and he was eaten by worms and died.
