7 So he said to the vinedresser, ‘Behold, for three years I have come looking for fruit on this fig tree and have not found any. Cut it down! Why should it use up the soil?’

But the vinedresser answered him, ‘Sir, allow it to remain for this year also, and I will dig around it and put manure on it.


Even now the axe is laid at the root of the trees. Every tree therefore that does not produce good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.”


Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it may bear more fruit.


If anyone does not abide in me, he is thrown out like a branch and withers. Such branches are gathered up, thrown into the fire, and burned.
