Romans 13:4 - The Scriptures 2009

4 for it is a servant of Elohim to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid, for it does not bear the sword in vain. For it is a servant of Elohim, a revenger to execute wrath on him who practises evil.

and said to the judges, “Watch what you are doing, for you do not judge for man, but for יהוה who is with you in the matter of right-ruling.


The sovereign’s wrath is a messenger of death, But a wise man appeases it.


The dread of a sovereign is like the roaring of a lion; Whoever provokes him sins against his own life.


A wise sovereign winnows out the wrong, And turns the wheel over them.


A sovereign who sits on the throne of judgment Is scattering all evil with his eyes.


“Learn to do good! Seek right-ruling, reprove the oppressor, defend the fatherless, plead for the widow.


They have become fat, they are sleek. They also overlook the deeds of the wrong. They did not rightly rule the cause of the fatherless, so that they prosper. And the right of the needy they did not rightly rule.


“Her leaders in her midst are like wolves tearing the prey, to shed blood, to destroy lives, and to get greedy gain.


“And I shall lay My vengeance on Eḏom by the hand of My people Yisra’ĕl. And they shall do in Eḏom according to My displeasure and according to My wrath. So they shall know My vengeance,” declares the Master יהוה.


Hear this, please, you heads of the house of Ya‛aqoḇ and you rulers of the house of Yisra’ĕl, who despise right-ruling and distort all that is straight,


Beloved, do not revenge yourselves, but give place to the wrath, for it has been written, “Vengeance is Mine, I shall repay,” says יהוה.


For because of this you also pay taxes, for they are servants of Elohim attending continually to these duties.


not to overstep and take advantage of his brother in this matter, because the Master is the revenger of all such, as we indeed said to you before and earnestly warned.


And when the revenger of blood pursues him, they do not give the man-slayer into his hand, because he struck his neighbour unknowingly, and did not hate him beforehand.


These were the cities appointed for all the children of Yisra’ĕl and for the stranger who sojourned in their midst, for anyone striking any being unknowingly, to flee there, and not die by the hand of the revenger of blood until he stood before the congregation.


or to governors, as to those who are sent by him for the punishment of doers of evil, and a praise for those who do good.
