And the sovereign of Yisra’ĕl answered and said, “Speak, ‘Him who girds on his armour should not boast like him who lays it down.’ ”


And Yĕhu son of Ḥanani the seer went out to face him, and said to Sovereign Yehoshaphat, “Do you help the wrong and love those who hate יהוה? Therefore the wrath of יהוה is upon you.


“You have said, ‘See, I have stricken Eḏom,’ and your heart has lifted you up to boast. Now stay at home, why should you stir up yourself to evil, that you should fall – you and Yehuḏah with you?”


For the wrongdoer boasted of his cravings; And the greedy one cursed and despised יהוה.


So they became unclean by their own works, And went whoring by their own deeds.


Those who are trusting in their riches And who are boasting in their great wealth?


The boasters do not stand before Your eyes; You hate all workers of wickedness.


Why do you boast in evil, O mighty man? The loving-commitment of Ěl is all day long!


Those who hate יהוה would cringe before Him; And their time of punishment be forever.


They pour forth words, They speak arrogantly; All the workers of wickedness boast in themselves.


All are put to shame who serve carved images, Those boasting of matters of naught. Bow yourselves to Him, all you mighty ones.


You answered them, O יהוה our Elohim. You were a forgiving Ěl to them, Though You took vengeance on their deeds.


He who plots to do evil Is called a master of evil plots.


The north wind brings rain, And a secret tongue an enraged face.


An eye that mocks his father, And scorns to obey his mother – Ravens of the wadi dig it out, And young eagles eat it!


“But he who sins against me injures himself; All who hate me love death!”


Truly, this only I have found: that Elohim made man straight, but they have sought out many devices.”

From that time יהושע began to show to His taught ones that it was necessary for Him to go to Yerushalayim, and to suffer much from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and to be raised again the third day.


“And you shall also be betrayed by parents and brothers and relatives and friends. And some of you shall be put to death.


“It is impossible for the world to hate you, but it hates Me because I bear witness of it, that its works are wicked.


“For before these days Toḏah rose up, claiming to be somebody. A number of men, about four hundred, did join him. He was slain, and all who obeyed him were dispersed, and came to naught.


See, you are called a Yehuḏi, and rest on the Torah, and make your boast in Elohim,


You who make your boast in the Torah, through the transgression of the Torah do you disrespect Elohim?


Where, then, is the boasting? It is shut out. By what torah? Of works? No, but by the torah of belief.


not boasting beyond measure in the labours of others, but having an expectation, that as your belief grows, we shall be greatly enlarged by you, according to our limits,


For I fear lest, when I come, I do not find you such as I wish, and I be found by you such as you do not wish – lest there be strife, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, slander, gossip, puffings up, unrests,


Cursed is he who makes light of his father or his mother.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amĕn!’


but repaying those who hate Him to their face, to destroy them. He does not delay to do so with him who hates Him, He repays him to his face.


who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called Elohim or that is worshipped, so that he sits as Elohim in the Dwelling Place of Elohim, showing himself that he is Elohim.


For men shall be lovers of self, lovers of silver, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, thankless, wrong-doers,


For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, led astray, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in evil and envy, being hated and hating one another.


So too the tongue is a little member, yet boasts greatly. See how a little fire kindles a great forest!


But now you boast in your proud speeches. All such boasting is wicked.


For speaking arrogant nonsense, they entice – through the lusts of the flesh, through indecencies – the ones who have indeed escaped from those living in delusion,


These are grumblers, complainers, who walk according to their own lusts, and their mouth speaks proudly, admiring faces of others for the sake of gain.
