3 “The pride of your heart has deceived you, you who dwell in the clefts of the rock, whose dwelling is high, who say in your heart, ‘Who shall bring me down to the ground?’

So Ěsaw dwelt in Mount Sĕ‛ir. Ěsaw is Eḏom.


He struck Eḏom in the Valley of Salt, ten thousand, and took Sela in battle, and called its name Yoqthe’ĕl to this day.


And Amatsyahu strengthened himself, and led his people, and went to the Valley of Salt and struck ten thousand of the sons of Sĕ‛ir.


And the sons of Yehuḏah took captive another ten thousand alive, and they brought them to the top of the rock, and threw them down from the top of the rock, and all of them were dashed to pieces.


Although his pride mounts up to the heavens, and his head does reach to the clouds,


Before destruction comes pride, And before a fall a haughty spirit!


Before destruction the heart of a man is haughty, And before esteem is humility.


The pride of man brings him low, But the humble in spirit obtains esteem.


We have heard of the pride of Mo’aḇ – very proud – of his pride, his arrogance and his rage. His boastings are not true.


“See, I am against you, O inhabitant of the valley, rock of the plain,” declares יהוה, “who are saying, ‘Who would come down against us? And who would come into our dwellings?’


“Thus said יהוה, ‘Do not deceive yourselves, saying, “The Kasdim shall go away from us,” for they do not go.


“O inhabitants of Mo’aḇ, leave the cities and dwell in the rock, and be like the dove making a nest in the sides of the cave’s mouth.


“The dread for you, the pride of your heart, has deceived you, O you who dwell in the clefts of the rock, holding the height of the hill! Though you make your nest as high as the eagle, from there I bring you down,” declares the Master.


“Why do you boast in the valleys, your flowing valley, O backsliding daughter who is trusting in her treasures, saying, ‘Who would come against me?’


“By the greatness of your trade you became filled with violence within, and you sinned. So I thrust you from the mountain of Elohim, and I destroyed you, O covering keruḇ, from the midst of the stones of fire.


If Eḏom says, “We have been beaten down, let us return and build the ruins,” יהוה of hosts said thus: “Let them build, but I tear down. And they shall be called ‘Border of Wrongness’, and the people against whom יהוה is enraged forever.
