And He said to Aḇram, “Know for certain that your seed are to be sojourners in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them, and they shall afflict them four hundred years.


And they took their livestock and their property which they had acquired in the land of Kena‛an, and came into Mitsrayim, Ya‛aqoḇ and all his seed with him.


His sons and his sons’ sons, his daughters and his sons’ daughters, and all his seed he brought with him to Mitsrayim.


And on the seventh day it came to be that the child died. And the servants of Dawiḏ were afraid to inform him that the child was dead, for they said, “Look, while the child was still alive, we spoke to him, and he would not listen to our voice. And how do we say to him that the child is dead? Then he shall do evil!”


and he said, “When you deliver the Hebrew women, and see them on the birthstools, if it is a son, then you shall put him to death, but if it is a daughter, then she shall live.”


And Pharaoh commanded all his people, saying, “Throw every son who is born into the river, and keep alive every daughter.”


And the sojourn of the children of Yisra’ĕl who lived in Mitsrayim was four hundred and thirty years.


Also the foremen of the children of Yisra’ĕl, whom Pharaoh’s slave-drivers had set over them, were struck and were asked, “Why have you not fulfilled your law in making bricks both yesterday and today, as before?”


“We remember the fish which we ate without cost in Mitsrayim, the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlic,


“Is it little that you have brought us up out of a land flowing with milk and honey, to kill us in the wilderness, that you would also seize total rule over us?


And Mosheh sent messengers from Qaḏĕsh to the sovereign of Eḏom. “This is what your brother Yisra’ĕl said, ‘You know all the hardship that has befallen us,


And we cried out to יהוה, and He heard our voice and sent the Messenger and brought us up out of Mitsrayim. And see, we are in Qaḏĕsh, a city on the edge of your border.


“And Ya‛aqoḇ went down to Mitsrayim, and died, he and our fathers,


“Having dealt treacherously with our race, this one mistreated our fathers, making them expose their babies, so that they should not live.


But the Mitsrites did evil to us, and afflicted us, and imposed hard labour on us.
