On my bed at night I sought the beloved of my being; I sought him, but I did not find him.


I was sleeping, But my heart was awake – the voice of my beloved! He knocks, “Open for me, my sister, My love, my dove, my perfect one; For my head is drenched with dew, My locks with the drops of the night.”


I have taken off my robe, should I put it on? I have washed my feet, should I dirty them?


“For the vision is yet for an appointed time, and it speaks of the end, and does not lie. If it lingers, wait for it, for it shall certainly come, it shall not delay.


“But if that evil servant says in his heart, ‘My master is delaying his coming,’


“And after a long time the master of those servants came and settled accounts with them.


but the wise took oil in their containers with their lamps.


And at midnight a cry was heard, ‘See, the bridegroom is coming, go out to meet him!’ ”


And He came to the taught ones and found them asleep, and said to Kĕpha, “So, were you not able to watch with Me one hour?


And He came and found them asleep again, for their eyes were heavy.


And the people waited for Zeḵaryah, and marvelled at his delay in the Dwelling Place.


“But if that servant says in his heart, ‘My master is delaying his coming,’ and begins to beat the male servants and female servants, and to eat and drink and be drunk,


“I say to you that He shall do right to them speedily. But when the Son of Aḏam comes, shall He find the belief on the earth?”


And He began to speak this parable to the people, “A certain man planted a vineyard, and leased it to farmers, and went away for a long time.


And do this, knowing the time, that it is already the hour for us to wake up from sleep, for now our deliverance is nearer than when we did believe.


That is why He says, “Wake up, you who sleep, and arise from the dead, and Messiah shall shine on you.”


Be sober, watch, because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.


“But hold fast what you have until I come.
