And Shelomoh at that time performed the Festival, and all Yisra’ĕl with him, a great assembly from the entrance of Ḥamath to the wadi of Mitsrayim, before יהוה our Elohim, seven days and seven days – fourteen days.


All the people who were left of the Amorites, the Ḥittites, the Perizzites, the Ḥiwwites, and the Yeḇusites, who were not of the children of Yisra’ĕl –

from Mount Hor you mark out your border to the entrance of Ḥamath, and the edge of the border shall be toward Tseḏaḏ,


Turn and set out on your way, and go into the mountains of the Amorites, and to all the neighbouring places in the desert plain, in the mountains and in the low country, and in the Negeḇ and on the seacoast, to the land of the Kena‛anites and to Leḇanon, as far as the great river, the River Euphrates.


(Tsiḏonians call Ḥermon, Siryon – and the Amorites call it Senir),”


There was not a city that made peace with the children of Yisra’ĕl, except the Ḥiwwites, the inhabitants of Giḇ‛on. All the others they took in battle.


the Kena‛anites in the east and in the west, and the Amorite, and the Ḥittite, and the Perizzite, and the Yeḇusite in the mountains, and the Ḥiwwite below Ḥermon in the land of Mitspah.


from Shiḥor which is in front of Mitsrayim, and up to the border of Eqron northward, are considered as Kena‛anite – the five princes of the Philistines, the Azzathites, and the Ashdoḏites, the Eshqelonites, the Gittites, and the Eqronites; also the Awwites


and the land of the Geḇalites, and all Leḇanon, toward the sunrise, from Ba‛al Gaḏ below Mount Ḥermon as far as the entrance to Ḥamath;


and Ḥeḇron, and Reḥoḇ, and Ḥammon, and Qanah, as far as Great Tsiḏon.


But the men of Yisra’ĕl said to the Ḥiwwites, “It could be that you dwell in our midst, so how would we make a covenant with you?”


“And the Tsiḏonians and Amalĕq and Ma‛on oppressed you. And you cried out to Me, and I saved you from their hand.


Therefore the displeasure of יהוה burned against Yisra’ĕl. And He sold them into the hands of the Philistines and into the hands of the children of Ammon.


However, his father and mother did not know that it was of יהוה, that He was seeking an occasion to move against the Philistines. For at that time the Philistines were ruling over Yisra’ĕl.


Then the five men left and came to Layish, and saw the people who were in their midst, how they dwelt safely, according to the ruling of the Tsiḏonians, at rest and unsuspecting. And no one possessing authority in the land was reproaching for any matter. And they were far from the Tsiḏonians, and they had no word with anyone.


only that the generations of the children of Yisra’ĕl might know, to teach them battle, only those who before did not know them:


Therefore יהוה sold them into the hand of Yaḇin the sovereign of Kena‛an, who reigned in Ḥatsor. And the commander of his army was Sisera, who was dwelling in Ḥarosheth Haggoyim.


And the Philistines gathered to fight Yisra’ĕl, thirty thousand chariots and six thousand horsemen, and people as numerous as the sand on the seashore. And they came up and encamped in Miḵmash, east of Bĕyth Awen.


And the princes of the Philistines were passing on by hundreds and by thousands, and Dawiḏ and his men were passing on in the rear with Aḵish.


And when the five princes of the Philistines saw it, they returned to Eqron the same day.


and the gold rats, by the number of all the cities of the Philistines belonging to the five princes, both walled cities and country villages, even as far as the great meadow on which they placed the ark of יהוה, remain to this day in the field of Yehoshua of Bĕyth Shemesh.


And they said, “What is the guilt offering which we return to Him?” And they answered, “The number of the princes of the Philistines: five golden tumours and five golden rats. For the same plague was on all of you and on your princes.
