28 Then they led יהושע from Qayapha to the palace, and it was early. And they themselves did not go into the palace, lest they should be defiled, but that they might eat the Pĕsaḥ.

28 The Jewish leaders led Jesus from Caiaphas to the Roman governor’s palace. It was early in the morning. So that they could eat the Passover, the Jewish leaders wouldn’t enter the palace; entering the palace would have made them ritually impure.

“In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the new moon, you have the Pĕsaḥ, a festival of seven days, unleavened bread is eaten.


Woe to those plotting wickedness, and working out evil upon their beds! In the light of the morning they practise it, because it is in the might of their hand.


Then the soldiers of the governor took יהושע into the court and gathered the entire company of soldiers around Him.


And the soldiers led Him away into the court, which is the palace, and they called together the entire company of soldiers,


And when it became day, the elders of the people, both chief priests and scribes, came together and they led Him into their council, saying,


Now the Pĕsaḥ of the Yehuḏim was near, and many went from the country up to Yerushalayim before the Pĕsaḥ, to set themselves apart.


and they led Him away to Ḥanan first, for he was the father-in-law of Qayapha who was high priest that year.


And Shim‛on Kĕpha followed יהושע, with another taught one, and that taught one was known to the high priest, and went with יהושע into the courtyard of the high priest.


Then Pilate went back into the palace, and called יהושע, and said to Him, “Are You the Sovereign of the Yehuḏim?”


But you have a habit that I shall release someone to you at the Pĕsaḥ. Do you wish, then, that I release to you the Sovereign of the Yehuḏim?


יהושע answered, “You would possess no authority against Me if it were not given you from above. Because of this, he who delivered Me to you has greater sin.”


And it was the Preparation Day of the Pĕsaḥ week, and about the sixth hour. And he said to the Yehuḏim, “See your Sovereign!”


and went back into the palace, and asked יהושע, “Where are You from?” But יהושע gave him no answer.


And he said to them, “You know that a Yehuḏi man is not allowed to associate with, or go to one of another race. But Elohim has shown me that I should not call any man common or unclean.


Now send to Yapho and call Shim‛on here, who is also called Kĕpha. He is staying in the house of Shim‛on, a leather-tanner, by the sea. When he comes, he shall speak to you.’


saying, “You went in to uncircumcised men and ate with them!”


“The Elohim of Aḇraham, and of Yitsḥaq, and of Ya‛aqoḇ, the Elohim of our fathers, esteemed His Servant יהושע, whom you delivered up and denied in the presence of Pilate, when he had decided to release Him.


“For truly, in this city there were gathered together against Your set-apart Servant יהושע, whom You anointed, both Herodes and Pontius Pilate, with the nations and the people of Yisra’ĕl


“And you shall slaughter the Pĕsaḥ to יהוה your Elohim, from the flock and the herd, in the place where יהוה chooses to put His Name.
