16 Then the heads and all the people said to the priests and the prophets, “No death sentence for this man. For he has spoken to us in the Name of יהוה our Elohim.”

Who would rise up for me against evil-doers? Who would stand up for me against workers of wickedness?


When a man’s ways please יהוה, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.


And the priests and the prophets spoke to the heads and all the people, saying, “A death sentence for this man! For he has prophesied against this city, as you have heard with your ears.”


And when all the heads and all the people who had come into the covenant heard that each one was to set free his male and female slaves, and not keep them enslaved any longer, they obeyed and released them.


Then the heads said to Baruḵ, “Go, hide, you and Yirmeyahu, and let no one know where you are.”


Moreover, Elnathan, and Delayahu, and Gemaryahu pleaded with the sovereign not to burn the scroll, but he did not listen to them.


And the heads were wroth with Yirmeyahu, and struck him and put him in prison in the house of Yehonathan the scribe. For they had made that for a prison.


And when the captain and those with him, who were guarding יהושע, saw the earthquake and all that took place, they feared exceedingly, saying, “Truly this was the Son of Elohim!”


And we, indeed, rightly so, for we receive the due reward of our deeds, but this One has done no wrong.


And the captain, seeing what took place, praised Elohim, saying, “Truly, this Man was righteous!”


I found out that he was accused concerning questions of their Torah, but there was no charge against him deserving death or chains.


And there was a great uproar. And certain of the scribes of the party of Pharisees were earnestly contending, saying, “We find no evil in this man. And if a spirit or a messenger has spoken to him, let us not fight against Elohim.”


“But I, having found that he had committed none at all deserving death, and that he himself had appealed to Augustus, I decided to send him.
