“Therefore, see, I am again doing a marvellous work among this people, a marvellous work and a wonder. And the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their clever men shall be hidden.”


Pause and wonder! Blind yourselves and be blind! They are drunk, but not with wine; they stagger, but not with strong drink.


They do not know nor understand, for He has smeared their eyes from seeing, and their hearts from understanding.


O יהוה, why do You make us stray from Your ways, and harden our heart from Your fear? Turn back, for the sake of Your servants, the tribes of Your inheritance.


“The heart is crooked above all, and desperately sick – who shall know it?


Hear this now, O foolish people without heart, who have eyes and see not, and who have ears and hear not:


To whom shall I speak and give warning, so that they hear? See, their ear is uncircumcised, and they are unable to listen. See, the word of יהוה is a reproach to them, they do not delight in it.


Give them a veiled heart, Your curse upon them!


And יהוה said to me, “Take again the implements of a foolish shepherd.


“But they refused to listen, and they shrugged their shoulders, and stopped their ears from hearing.


for the heart of this people has become thickened, and their ears are hard of hearing, and their eyes they have closed, lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, lest they should understand with their heart, and turn back, and I heal them.’


“He has blinded their eyes and hardened their heart, so that they should not see with their eyes and understand with their heart, and turn, and I should heal them.”
