What strength do I have, that I should wait? And what is my end, that I should prolong my life?


Remember that my life is a breath! My eye is never again to see good.


I said, “O my Ěl, Do not take me away in the midst of my days; Your years are throughout all generations.


“You did found the earth of old, And the heavens are the work of Your hands.


Their being loathed all food, And they drew near to the gates of death,


Love יהוה, all you His lovingly-committed ones! For יהוה guards the trustworthy ones, And exceedingly repays the doer of pride.


All that your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work or planning or knowledge or wisdom in She’ol where you are going.


In those days Ḥizqiyahu was sick and near death. And Yeshayahu the prophet, the son of Amots, came to him, and said to him, “Thus said יהוה, ‘Command your house, for you are going to die and not live.’ ”


This is the writing of Ḥizqiyahu sovereign of Yehuḏah, when he had been sick and had recovered from his sickness:


“I went down to the base of the mountains, the earth with its bars were behind me forever. But You brought up my life from the pit, O יהוה, my Elohim.


Indeed, we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves but in Elohim who raises the dead,
