Hebrews 2:17 - The Scriptures 2009

17 So in every way He had to be made like His brothers, in order to become a compassionate and trustworthy High Priest in matters related to Elohim, to make atonement for the sins of the people.

And righteousness shall be the girdle of His loins, and trustworthiness the girdle of His waist.


“And one lamb from a flock, from two hundred, from the watered pastures of Yisra’ĕl, for grain offerings, and for an ascending offering, and for peace offerings, to make atonement for them,” declares the Master יהוה.


“And on the prince are the ascending offerings, and the grain offerings, and drink offerings, at the festival, the new moons, the sabbaths – in all the appointed times of the house of Yisra’ĕl. He is to prepare the sin offering, and the grain offering, and the ascending offering, and the peace offerings to make atonement for the house of Yisra’ĕl.”


“And do the same on the seventh of the new moon for anyone who makes a mistake or is foolish. And you shall make atonement for the House.


“Seventy weeks are decreed for your people and for your set-apart city, to put an end to the transgression, and to seal up sins, and to cover crookedness, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up vision and prophet, and to anoint the Most Set-apart.


“And the rest of the oil that is in the priest’s hand he puts on the head of him who is to be cleansed. And the priest shall make atonement for him before יהוה.


“And he shall make atonement for the Set-apart Place, because of the uncleanness of the children of Yisra’ĕl, and because of their transgressions in all their sins. And so he does for the Tent of Appointment which is dwelling with them in the midst of their uncleanness.


‘And no sin offering from which any of the blood is brought into the Tent of Appointment, to make atonement in the set-apart place, is eaten, it is burned with fire.


and it was slain. And Mosheh took the blood, and put some on the horns of the slaughter-place all around with his finger, and cleansed the slaughter-place. And he poured the blood at the base of the slaughter-place, and set it apart, to make atonement for it.


Then the priest shall make atonement for all the congregation of the children of Yisra’ĕl, and it shall be forgiven them, for it was by mistake. And they shall bring their offering, an offering made by fire to יהוה, and their sin offering before יהוה, for their mistake.


Therefore I have cause for boasting in Messiah יהושע in the matters pertaining to Elohim.


For if, being enemies, we were restored to favour with Elohim through the death of His Son, much more, having been restored to favour, we shall be saved by His life.


and to completely restore to favour both of them unto Elohim in one body through the stake, having destroyed the enmity by it.


And you, who once were estranged and enemies in the mind by wicked works, but now He has completely restored to favour


and having a High Priest over the House of Elohim,


For both He who sets apart and those who are being set apart are all of One, for which reason He is not ashamed to call them brothers,


Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself similarly shared in the same, so that by means of His death He might destroy him having the power of death, that is, the devil,


For, doubtless, He does not take hold of messengers, but He does take hold of the seed of Aḇraham.


Therefore, set-apart brothers, partakers of the heavenly calling, closely consider the Emissary and High Priest of our confession, Messiah יהושע,


who was trustworthy to Him who appointed Him, as also Mosheh in all His house.


And Mosheh indeed was trustworthy in all His house as a servant, for a witness of what would be spoken later,


Therefore, since we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, יהושע the Son of Elohim, let us hold fast our confession.


For we do not have a High Priest unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who was tried in all respects as we are, apart from sin.


For every priest taken from among men is appointed on behalf of men in matters relating to Elohim, to offer both gifts and offerings for sins,


having been designated by Elohim a High Priest “according to the order of Malkitseḏeq,”


being able to have a measure of feeling for those not knowing and being led astray, since he himself is also surrounded by weakness.


So also the Messiah did not extol Himself to become High Priest, but it was He who said to Him, “You are My Son, today I have brought You forth.”


where יהושע has entered as a forerunner for us, having become High Priest forever according to the order of Malkitseḏeq.


For it was fitting that we should have such a High Priest – kind, innocent, undefiled, having been separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens,


For the Torah appoints as high priests men who have weakness, but the word of the oath which came after the Torah, appoints the Son having been perfected forever.


Now the summary of what we are saying is: We have such a High Priest, who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Greatness in the heavens,


For every high priest is appointed to offer both gifts and slaughters. So it was also necessary for this One to have somewhat to offer.


But Messiah, having become a High Priest of the coming good matters, through the greater and more perfect Tent not made with hands, that is, not of this creation,
