3 “Re’uḇĕn, you are my first-born, my power and the beginning of my strength, the excellency of exaltation and the excellency of power.

And Lĕ’ah conceived and bore a son, and she called his name Re’uḇĕn, for she said, “For יהוה has looked on my affliction, because now my husband is going to love me.”


And it came to be, when Yisra’ĕl dwelt in that land, that Re’uḇĕn went and lay with Bilhah his father’s concubine. And Yisra’ĕl heard about it. Now the sons of Ya‛aqoḇ were twelve:


the sons of Lĕ’ah were Re’uḇĕn, Ya‛aqoḇ’s first-born, and Shim‛on, and Lĕwi, and Yehuḏah, and Yissasḵar, and Zeḇulun;


And these were the names of the children of Yisra’ĕl, Ya‛aqoḇ and his sons, who came into Mitsrayim: Re’uḇĕn was Ya‛aqoḇ’s first-born.


And Yosĕph said to his father, “Not so, my father, for this one is the first-born, put your right hand on his head.”


These were the sons of Yisra’ĕl: Re’uḇĕn, Shim‛on, Lĕwi and Yehuḏah, Yissasḵar and Zeḇulun,


As for the sons of Re’uḇĕn the first-born of Yisra’ĕl – he was the first-born, but because he profaned his father’s bed, his birthright was given to the sons of Yosĕph, son of Yisra’ĕl, so that the genealogy is not listed according to the birthright,


the sons of Re’uḇĕn the first-born of Yisra’ĕl: Ḥanoḵ and Pallu, Ḥetsron and Karmi.


Then He struck all the first-born in their land, The first-fruit of all their strength,


And He struck all the first-born in Mitsrayim, The first-fruits of strength in the tents of Ḥam,


“And by the border of Ephrayim, from the east side to the west, Re’uḇĕn: one.


And the children of Re’uḇĕn, Yisra’ĕl’s first-born, their genealogies by their clans, by their fathers’ house, according to the number of names, every male head by head, from twenty years old and above, everyone going out to the army,


Re’uḇĕn, first-born of Yisra’ĕl, sons of Re’uḇĕn: of Ḥanoḵ, the clan of the Ḥanoḵites; of Pallu, the clan of the Palluites;


“But he is to acknowledge the son of the unloved wife as the first-born by giving him a double portion of all that he has, for he is the beginning of his strength – the right of the first-born is his.


“And these are to stand on Mount Ěyḇal to curse: Re’uḇĕn, Gaḏ, and Ashĕr, and Zeḇulun, Dan, and Naphtali.


Let Re’uḇĕn live, and not die, and let his men be numbered.


“And to the messenger of the assembly in Laodikeia write, ‘The Amĕn, the Trustworthy and True Witness, the Beginning of the creation of Elohim, says this:
