5 And Ya‛aqoḇ heard that he had defiled Dinah his daughter. Now his sons were with his livestock in the field, so Ya‛aqoḇ kept silent until they came.

And Sheḵem spoke to his father Ḥamor, saying, “Take this girl for me for a wife.”

“And his older son was in the field, and when he came and approached the house, he heard music and dancing.


“And answering, he said to his father, ‘See, these many years I have been serving you, and I have never transgressed a command of yours, but to me you have never given a young goat, so I could rejoice with my friends.


But the sons of Beliya‛al said, “What! Does this one save us?” And they despised him, and brought him no presents. But he kept silent.


And Shemu’ĕl said to Yishai, “Are these all the young men?” And he said, “There remains yet the youngest, and see, he is tending the sheep.” And Shemu’ĕl said to Yishai, “Send and bring him, for we do not turn round till he comes here.”


but Dawiḏ went and returned from Sha’ul to feed his father’s sheep at Bĕyth Leḥem.
