2 And Aḇraham said concerning Sarah his wife, “She is my sister.” And Aḇimeleḵ sovereign of Gerar sent and took Sarah.

And Pharaoh’s officials saw her and praised her before Pharaoh, and the woman was taken to Pharaoh’s house.


“And yet, she is truly my sister. She is the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother, and she became my wife.


And it came to be at that time that Aḇimeleḵ and Piḵol, the commander of his army, spoke to Aḇraham, saying, “Elohim is with you in all that you do.


And there was a scarcity of food in the land, besides the first scarcity of food which was in the days of Aḇraham. And Yitsḥaq went to Aḇimeleḵ, sovereign of the Philistines, in Gerar.


And Aḇimeleḵ said to Yitsḥaq, “Go away from us, for you are much mightier than we.”


And when the men of the place asked about his wife, he said, “She is my sister.” For he was afraid to say, “She is my wife,” thinking, “lest the men of the place should kill me for Riḇqah, because she is good-looking.”


And Yĕhu son of Ḥanani the seer went out to face him, and said to Sovereign Yehoshaphat, “Do you help the wrong and love those who hate יהוה? Therefore the wrath of יהוה is upon you.


Then Eli‛ezer son of Doḏawahu of Marĕshah prophesied against Yehoshaphat, saying, “Because you have joined yourself with Aḥazyahu, יהוה shall break up your work.” And the ships were wrecked, so that they were unable to go to Tarshish.


However with the envoys of the princes of Baḇel, whom they sent to ask him about the wonder that was done in the land, Elohim left him, in order to try him, to know all that was in his heart.


For seven times a righteous man falls and rises, But the wrong one stumbles into evil.


The fear of man brings a snare, But whoever trusts in יהוה is set on high.


So is he who goes in to his neighbour’s wife; None who touches her goes unpunished.


For there is not a righteous man on earth who does good and does not sin.


Therefore, having put off the false, speak truth, each one with his neighbour, for we are members of one another.


Do not lie to each other, since you have put off the old man with his practices,
