Esther 9:22 - The Scriptures 2009

22 as the days on which the Yehuḏim had rest from their enemies, as the new moon which was turned from sorrow to joy for them, and from mourning to a good day, that they should make them days of feasting and joy, of sending portions to one another and gifts to the poor.

And the Yehuḏim undertook to do as they had begun, and as Mordeḵai had written to them,


Bless יהוה, O my being, And do not forget all His dealings,


To execute vengeance on the nations, Punishments on the peoples;


You have turned my mourning into dancing for me; You have torn off my sackcloth and girded me with gladness,


So that esteem might praise You and not be silent. O יהוה my Elohim, I thank You forever.


Their sword does enter into their own heart, And their bows are broken.


And it shall be, in the day יהוה gives you rest from your sorrow, and from your trouble and the hard service in which you were made to serve,


“Thus said יהוה of hosts, ‘The fast of the fourth, and the fast of the fifth, and the fast of the seventh, and the fast of the tenth months, are to be joy and gladness, and pleasant appointed times for the house of Yehuḏah – and they shall love the truth and the peace.’


Blessed are those who mourn, because they shall be comforted.


“But give in kindness of that which is within, and see, all are clean to you.


only that we might remember the poor, which I myself was eager to do.


“When there is a poor man with you, one of your brothers, within any of the gates in your land which יהוה your Elohim is giving you, do not harden your heart nor shut your hand from your poor brother,


and you shall rejoice in your festival, you and your son and your daughter, and your male servant and your female servant, and the Lĕwite, and the stranger and the fatherless and the widow who are within your gates.


“For seven days you shall celebrate to יהוה your Elohim in the place which יהוה chooses, because יהוה your Elohim does bless you in all your increase and in all the work of your hands, and you shall be only rejoicing!


and those dwelling on the earth rejoice over them and exult. And they shall send gifts to each other, because these two prophets tortured those dwelling on the earth.


Ask your young men, and let them inform you. So let my young men find favour in your eyes, for we come on a good day. Please give whatever comes to your hand to your servants and to your son Dawiḏ.’ ”
