And to the man He said, “Because you have listened to the voice of your wife, and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you, saying, ‘Do not eat of it’: “Cursed is the ground because of you, in toil you are to eat of it all the days of your life,


And she said, “As יהוה your Elohim lives, I do not have bread, only a handful of flour in a bin, and a little oil in a jar. And see, I am gathering a couple of sticks and shall go in and prepare it for myself and my son, and we shall eat it, and die.”


And Aḥazyah fell through the lattice of his upper room in Shomeron, and was injured, and sent messengers and said to them, “Go, inquire of Ba‛al-Zeḇuḇ, the mighty one of Eqron, if I shall recover from this injury.”


And they said to him, “A man came up to meet us, and said to us, ‘Go, return to the sovereign who sent you, and say to him, “Thus said יהוה, ‘Is it because there is no Elohim in Yisra’ĕl that you are sending to inquire of Ba‛al-Zeḇuḇ, the mighty one of Eqron? Therefore you are not going to get out of the bed to which you have gone up, for you shall certainly die.’” ’ ”


“So let the leprosy of Na‛aman cling to you and your descendants forever.” And he went out from him as leprous as snow.


Another one dies in the bitterness of his being, and never eats with pleasure.


For I have eaten ashes like bread, And mixed my drink with tears,


In vain do you rise up early, To sit up late, to eat the bread of toil; So He gives His beloved sleep.


As but a shadow each one walks; They busy themselves, only in vain; He heaps up wealth, But knows not who gathers them.


So He ended their days in a breath, And their years in trouble.


And all that my eyes desired I did not keep from them. I did not withhold my heart from any pleasure, for my heart rejoiced in all my labour. And this was my portion from all my labour.


For all his days are sufferings, and his work grievous; even in the night his heart takes no rest. That too is futile.


A man could do no better but to eat and drink, and enjoy himself in his labour! That too, I saw, was from the hand of Elohim.


Be glad in the day of prosperity, but in the evil day take note that Elohim has also appointed the one as well as the other, so that man should not uncover whatever shall be after him.


And instantly a messenger of יהוה smote him, because he did not give the esteem to Elohim. And becoming worm-eaten, he died.
