19 Pul the sovereign of Ashshur came against the land. And Menaḥĕm gave Pul a thousand talents of silver, for his hand to be with him to strengthen the reign in his hand.

And Yeho’ash sovereign of Yehuḏah took all the set-apart gifts that his fathers, Yehoshaphat and Yehoram and Aḥazyahu, sovereigns of Yehuḏah, had set apart, and his own set-apart gifts, and all the gold found in the treasuries of the House of יהוה and in the sovereign’s house, and sent them to Ḥaza’ĕl sovereign of Aram. Then he went away from Yerushalayim.


And it came to be, as soon as the reign was strengthened in his hand, that he struck his servants who had stricken his father the sovereign.


And he did evil in the eyes of יהוה. He did not turn away from the sins of Yaroḇ‛am son of Neḇat, who had made Yisra’ĕl sin, all his days.


And Menaḥĕm exacted the silver of Yisra’ĕl, of all the mighty men of wealth, of each man fifty sheqels of silver, to give to the sovereign of Ashshur. And the sovereign of Ashshur turned back, and did not stay there in the land.


In the days of Peqaḥ sovereign of Yisra’ĕl, Tiḡlath-Pileser sovereign of Ashshur came and took Iyon, and Aḇĕl Bĕyth Ma‛aḵah, and Yanowaḥ, and Qeḏesh, and Ḥatsor, and Gil‛aḏ, and Galil, all the land of Naphtali, and took them into exile to Ashshur.


And Aḥaz took the silver and gold that was found in the House of יהוה, and in the treasuries of the house of the sovereign, and sent it as a present to the sovereign of Ashshur.


At that time Ḥizqiyah cut off the doors of the Hĕḵal of יהוה, and the doorposts which Ḥizqiyah sovereign of Yehuḏah had overlaid, and gave it to the sovereign of Ashshur.


“And now, our Elohim, the great, the mighty, and awesome Ěl, guarding the covenant and the loving-commitment, let not all the trouble that has come upon us, our sovereigns and our heads, our priests and our prophets, our fathers and on all Your people, from the days of the sovereigns of Ashshur until this day, seem little before You.


Ashshur also has joined with them, They have helped the children of Lot. Selah.


But there is no gloom upon her who is distressed, as when at first He humbled the land of Zeḇulun and the land of Naphtali, and afterward more heavily oppressed her, by the way of the sea, beyond the Yardĕn, in Galil of the nations.


Thus said יהוה, “Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his arm, and whose heart turns away from יהוה.


“Yisra’ĕl is a scattered sheep, the lions have driven him away. First the sovereign of Ashshur devoured him, and now, at last, this Neḇuḵaḏretstsar sovereign of Baḇel has broken his bones.”


“And Oholah whored while she was Mine. And she lusted for her lovers, the neighbouring Ashshurians,


It is also brought to Ashshur as a present for Sovereign Yarĕḇ. Ephrayim does receive shame, and Yisra’ĕl is put to shame through his counsel.


“When Ephrayim saw his sickness, and Yehuḏah saw his wound, then Ephrayim went to Ashshur and sent to Sovereign Yarĕḇ. But he is unable to heal you, or to remove the wound from you.
