1 Chronicles 19:2 - The Scriptures 2009

2 And Dawiḏ said, “Let me show loving-commitment to Ḥanun son of Naḥash, because his father showed loving-commitment to me.” So Dawiḏ sent messengers to comfort him concerning his father. And the servants of Dawiḏ came to Ḥanun in the land of the children of Ammon to comfort him.

And Dawiḏ said, “Is there still anyone who is left of the house of Sha’ul, that I might show him loving-commitment, because of Yehonathan?”


Dawiḏ then said to him, “Do not fear, for I shall certainly show you loving-commitment because of Yehonathan your father, and shall return to you all the land of Sha’ul your grandfather, and let you eat bread at my table continually.”


And he said to him, “Please say to her, ‘Look, you have gone to all this trouble for us. What is there to be done for you? Should I speak on your behalf to the sovereign or to the commander of the army?’ ” And she answered, “I am dwelling among my own people.”


And after this it came to be that Naḥash the sovereign of the children of Ammon died, and his son reigned in his place.


And the chiefs of the children of Ammon said to Ḥanun, “Is Dawiḏ esteeming your father, in your eyes, because he has sent comforters to you? Have his servants not come to you to search and to overthrow and to spy out the land?”


On that day was read from the Book of Mosheh in the hearing of the people, and in it was found written that an Ammonite and Mo’aḇite should not come into the assembly of Elohim forever,


And Toḇiyah the Ammonite was beside him, and he said, “Whatever they build, if a fox should climb on it, he shall break down their stone wall.”


And it came to be, when Sanballat and Toḇiyah, and the Araḇs, and the Ammonites, and the Ashdoḏites heard that the walls of Yerushalayim were being repaired and the broken places began to be filled, that they became very wroth,


Then the sovereign said, “What has been done in value or in greatness to Mordeḵai for this?” And the sovereign’s servants who attended him said, “Naught has been done for him.”


And there was found in it a poor wise man, and by his wisdom he delivered the city, yet no one remembered that poor man.


And many of the Yehuḏim had come to Martha and Miryam, to comfort them concerning their brother.


And when Dawiḏ came to Tsiqlaḡ, he sent some of the spoil to the elders of Yehuḏah, to his friends, saying, “Here is a present for you from the spoil of the enemies of יהוה,”
