And it came to be after the death of Sha’ul, when Dawiḏ had returned from striking the Amalĕqites, that Dawiḏ remained two days in Tsiqlaḡ.


And Dawiḏ brought up the men who were with him, each man with his household, and they dwelt in the cities of Ḥeḇron.


when someone reported to me, saying, ‘See, Sha’ul is dead,’ and he was a bearer of good news in his own eyes, I then took hold of him and killed him in Tsiqlaḡ, which was the reward I gave him for his news.


And these were the heads of the mighty men whom Dawiḏ had, who strengthened themselves with him in his reign, with all Yisra’ĕl, to set him up to reign over Yisra’ĕl, according to the word of יהוה.


And he said, “Far be it from me, O my Elohim, that I should do this! Should I drink the blood of these men who have risked their lives? For at the risk of their lives they brought it.” And he would not drink it. This is what the three mighty men did.
