“See the man who would not make God his refuge, but trusted in the abundance of his riches, and sought refuge in his wealth!”


Put no confidence in extortion, set no vain hopes on robbery; if riches increase, set not your heart on them.


He who trusts in his riches will wither, but the righteous will flourish like a green leaf.


A rich man's wealth is his strong city, and like a high wall protecting him.

Woe to him who gets evil gain for his house, to set his nest on high, to be safe from the reach of harm!


Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them on the day of the wrath of the Lord. In the fire of his jealous wrath, all the earth shall be consumed; for a full, yea, sudden end he will make of all the inhabitants of the earth.


When the disciples heard this they were greatly astonished, saying, “Who then can be saved?”


And they were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, “What is this? A new teaching! With authority he commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him.”


And Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, “How hard it will be for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God!”


The Pharisees, who were lovers of money, heard all this, and they scoffed at him.


Little children, yet a little while I am with you. You will seek me; and as I said to the Jews so now I say to you, ‘Where I am going you cannot come.’


Jesus said to them, “Children, have you any fish?” They answered him, “No.”


Many of his disciples, when they heard it, said, “This is a hard saying; who can listen to it?”


My little children, with whom I am again in travail until Christ be formed in you!


As for the rich in this world, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on uncertain riches but on God who richly furnishes us with everything to enjoy.


My little children, I am writing this to you so that you may not sin; but if any one does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous;


Little children, you are of God, and have overcome them; for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.


Little children, keep yourselves from idols.


For you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing; not knowing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked.
