But of the people of Israel Solomon made no slaves; they were the soldiers, they were his officials, his commanders, his captains, his chariot commanders and his horsemen.

And now you intend to subjugate the people of Judah and Jerusalem, male and female, as your slaves. Have you not sins of your own against the Lord your God?


Now our flesh is as the flesh of our brethren, our children are as their children; yet we are forcing our sons and our daughters to be slaves, and some of our daughters have already been enslaved; but it is not in our power to help it, for other men have our fields and our vineyards.”


and made their lives bitter with hard service, in mortar and brick, and in all kinds of work in the field; in all their work they made them serve with rigor.


When you buy a Hebrew slave, he shall serve six years, and in the seventh he shall go out free, for nothing.


“If a thief is found breaking in, and is struck so that he dies, there shall be no bloodguilt for him;


For many nations and great kings shall make slaves even of them; and I will recompense them according to their deeds and the work of their hands.”


All the nations shall serve him and his son and his grandson, until the time of his own land comes; then many nations and great kings shall make him their slave.

The word which came to Jeremiah from the Lord, after King Zedekiah had made a covenant with all the people in Jerusalem to make a proclamation of liberty to them,


that every one should set free his Hebrew slaves, male and female, so that no one should enslave a Jew, his brother.


You may bequeath them to your sons after you, to inherit as a possession for ever; you may make slaves of them, but over your brethren the people of Israel you shall not rule, one over another, with harshness.


and as he could not pay, his lord ordered him to be sold, with his wife and children and all that he had, and payment to be made.
